Customer Reviews

3M ($12) vs FSL ($9) - See Pictures, Both offer Great Value! I wanted a pair of Earmuffs for myself and my 3 years old when I'm working on the yard or using power tools. I was debating between the FSL and 3M since they both cost within my budget. So I ordered both of them to compare. I think they both serve different purpose and here's my report:The FSL:- GREAT value! You kidding me? $9 ??!- Looks Great with metal rods and fabric bridge, soft padding on the under side.- It grip harder than the 3M (see pictures comparison when I test them with a kitchen scale)- Protection-wise (I don't care the dB numbers), it is noticeable better than the 3M but not huge.- the ear piece - it is smooth, so it does make it un-comfy if you sweat a lot after hours.- Why I'm returning the FSL: it's simply a little too tight for me and too bulky, I felt like having two giant balls on my ears. However it is a great Earmuffs in terms of noise reduction. Did I mention I paid $9 for it?!3M Peltor X-Series:- First I really like the Green, it's lighter, smaller, contemporary looking.- it grips nicely, not too tight but well enough to reduce ambiance noise while I can still hear someone talking within 4-6 feet away.- the ear-piece has a mat finish with some texture on them, so it's helps keeping the sweat away.- Why I'm keeping this one: Don't get me wrong, the FSL is great but the 3M is lighter and better in terms of sweat-proof. It's not as tight so I can wear them for a long time. If you want the best protection, get the FSL. For what I'm doing, 3M work better for me. $12 is still a great deal. 5X1A -- lightweight but built well These X1A muffs are the lowest attenuating of the Peltor X-series -- but in some cases that may be exactly what you're looking for. With an NRR (noise reduction rating) of 22 dB for "low to moderate noise exposures" you'll find these well built muffs very comfortable on a large head, just like I did. I have no obvious pressure points on my head or around my ears when I wear these and I have no qualms about wearing them for a few hours at a time -- they're not too heavy either. The earcups do tilt and the headband is easily adjustable up and down. It's hard to accurately describe what 22 dB of attenuation sounds like; I'll attest that they block out many noises but aren't as sound deadening as the top of the line X5A 31dB NRR model which I also own. I am impressed, however, with the durability of the X-series -- there's no exposed metal (hence "dielectric") and they still seem to be built like a tank. For a quality noise reducing earmuff, the price is very reasonable. You might occasionally find you need to replace the ear cushions, at which point it may just be cheaper to replace everything -- your mileage may vary. I've had these around though for a few years, used a few times per month, and they're still kicking around strong, so they aren't as cheap as your local hardware store disposables. As you can see with 3M Peltor, spend just a little more than the basics, and you'll get a quality product that lasts a while. 5Excellent for both child and adult I purchased these for my 2 year old son to use at the race track. I was looking for something that would be comfortable enough for him to wear without ripping them off is head as he did with the previous brand of earmuffs. They arrived quickly and the packaging was great. The package was easy to open which made putting these earmuffs to use quickly after they arrived. They are fully adjustable so not only did they fit my 2 year old well but they also fit me as well. They look stylish, the lime green color looks real nice and matches Kawasaki green near perfectly. My child has no problem keeping these in his head all afternoon and they drop the noise levels down enough to not hurt his ears. I personally tried these myself to see how much they reduce noise levels and I was very pleased. I would highly recommend these to anyone looking for a nice looking high quality yet affordable set of earmuffs. 5Perfect for son with autism/sensory issues We purchased these for our son who has autism. He has sensory issues with lots of noise. He wears these headphones when we are in loud public places or loud social situations. They have been amazing. He can still hear you when you talk to him but the background noise doesn't seem to bother him. In fact we were on vacation at Legoland for the first time when we pulled these out. He was getting worked up and tense and you could see his anxiety manifesting physically, we popped these on him and his entire body relaxed and he and his brothers gained many more hours of fun. Later in the vacation we went to a huge fireworks display and airshow and he had so much fun and was never overstimulated. I WISH I HAD PURCHASED THESE YEARS EARLIER!!!! My son is 9 and the size of a 12 year old, he wears these on the smallest size and they adjust to fit myself or my husband so sizewise they are great for a wide range. They are low profile and don't look huge on the head, more like a headphone. We throw these in my purse or a backpack and they are durable and have held up great. 5RIGHT NOISE REDUCTION FOR CLASSROOM USE, DOES NOT FOLD UP FOR CARRYING I purchased these earmuffs for two of my grandchildren who have ADHD - 13 year old girl and 10 year old boy. The girl and I tried both pair and came to the same conclusion - the green 3M Peltor at 22 dB would be the best one for use in a classroom or doing homework. The pink Pro For Sho 34 db Shooting Ear Protection would be good for really noisy events but muffles sound too much for use in the classroom. The Pro For Sho earmuffs made it very difficult to have a conversation with someone sitting right next to you - even in a quiet setting. She had to open one ear to have a conversation. She was able to have a conversation while wearing the green 3M Peltors. Both pairs of earmuffs were comfortable to wear and could have been adjusted to fit a larger person.I deducted one star from the 3M Peltors because they did not fold into a nice compact package like the pink Pro For Sho ones The Pro For Sho ones come in many colors, all with the same amount of noise reduction. 4Comfortable, Fantastic Seal, Unbeatable Price These are my first set of earmuffs so I really have nothing else to compare to, except a pair of Bose QC25 active noise canceling headphones (which I'm now returning because these earmuffs are so good!). That said, these earmuffs are fantastic. Absolutely unbelievable sound isolation for the asking price, which was just under $12 at time of purchase. The earpads, and pretty much everything else about the muffs, is built like a tank and definitely feels like it's built to last. That is not to say they are not comfortable, because they are! The ear pads provide a smooth seal around your ear, so long as you have medium to small ears. It is possible that they might overlap with ears on larger heads. The adjustable band makes it easy to find a great fit, too, though I must also point out this is probably designed for smaller heads, as I have to use them fully extended for my most comfortable fit and I have a medium-large size head. In terms of noise isolation, these beat the Bose QC 25, which were $300 headphones, for a fraction of the price. I guess the moral of the story is if you want noise isolation, get earmuffs and not headphones! And if you still need music in your life, just pop some in ear buds underneath. I use a pair of in ear buds under these muffs and the noise isolation improved even more. I could stick my head right next to a window air conditioner on full blast and I couldn't even hear a whisper - even with no music playing! These also look great and I feel no shame or embarrassment wearing them out in public with earbuds underneath. I think they blend right in, especially these days when pretty much half the people on the streets are walking around with their enormous over ear headphones. Fantastic product. Will order more in the future, almost definitely! 5Best option I've found as a professional shooter. As a professional shooter and instructor I have tried numerous types of hearing protection - in ear, over ear, electronic, etc. These are by far my favorite, I appreciate that there is no battery to maintain/change, I don't have to worry about the battery dying while on the range, they are comfortable and fit over my eye protection, even when using larger framed glasses, and for the price you cannot beat these. I'll be recommending these to all my students, cheap, simple, and effective. No gimmicks, these are a great value. 5Comfortable effective ear protection I bought the 22 db noise reduction pair, and am very happy with them. I didn't want the higher decibel noise reduction, because as the noise reduction ability gets higher, the earmuffs get thicker and heavier, and I wanted a pair that would be lighter to wear. I use them with my chainsaw and gas powered hedge trimmers, and while they don't silence them, they do deaden the noise quite a bit. For example, I like to wear my earbuds while working outside, and would crank them all the way up, and still have trouble hearing the music. Now I wear the earbuds under these noise reducing ear protectors, and play them below half volume and hear it clearly. And if you are wearing the ear protectors, with no earbuds and music, you can hear someone talking to you, as long as they're raising their voice a little bit.As far as comfort, I have a larger than average head, and after about 20 minutes of wearing these, I did find them a little tight and uncomfortable. Since the top part is basically a curved piece of metal wrapped in plastic, I just kind of bent them out a little, and they have been perfect ever since. Basically when I first got them the 2 earmuffs would touch each other, when they are not being worn, and now that I bent them out a bit, there is a 3/4 inch gap when not being worn. So, long story short, they are comfortable and deaden the noise, which is all I was looking for. 5Favorite for water sport I ordered three pairs of different brand earmuffs for our family trip to an indoor waterpark (which is too loud for my children with Autism). THIS pair was my favorite, especially because it has no exposed metal that will rust or be affected by the water. If you need sound-minimizing earmuffs that will get wet, these are the ones you want! Comfortable, nice fit, and best sound cushioning by far. FYI: "Walker's" is a good choice for babies and toddlers but had exposed metal. "Snug" was probably the MOST comfortable, but also had exposed metal. 5An inexpensive solution to high noise abatement PRO: This was a comfortable, inexpensive solution to an industrial room (pool pump room) where they supply disposable earplugs, but one ends up going in and out of the room multiple times, needing to hear outside the room, and the continual removal/re-placement of the earplugs was a nuisance.I've used in-ear radio earpieces under the earmuff, and I could hear and respond to the radio traffic just fine.CON: These are adjustable, but there is no indication of that. I didn't know that, there were no instructions, so for a week I figured that I had bought the SMALL or MEDIUM size on sale (oh well, it was inexpensive). But no, someone at work figured out how to extend the four thin headpiece cylinders so it fit those with larger heads. You'd think that would be a product bullet point or something... 4
