Customer Reviews

Does what I got it for I use this for when I have migraines or am otherwise in need of the world just shutting up for a while. It's excellent for reducing the volume of a TV show, film, etc., and it takes the top and bottom off of nearly every sound that actually happens inside my house, but you can still hear sharp or heavy sounds (my sister saying my name, the clackity-clack of my keyboard, etc.) It is a little bit harder to understand conversational speech than when using the 3M OCS1135 Ear Soft Yellow Neons Earplugs; but I only want to use these things when it's just plain too loud to think, so it's a basically an OK tradeoff.I recommend doubling up with earplugs if you really want peace and quiet, in any case. If there's a thunderstorm half a mile away, you will definitely hear the thunder, and if you have kids screaming in your house, you'll notice. It's not a "seen and not heard" device - the effect is more like what happens when kids actually use their indoor voices for once, or are in a well-insulated basement with you on the second floor.Oh, and it's very difficult to turn onto your side and read in bed, with these things on. I'm not saying that anyone would buy these thinking that they would want to do this, but it's something I keep surprising myself with. It also makes a tight fit with my prescription glasses, and messes up the fit of my CPAP mask, and there's no hope of wearing nearly any of my cute hats with it even before you account for the eye-popping color problem (you're going to have a heart attack and die of not surprised, right?) 5They work, for me and my 3-year old son My son (3 years) and I went to the Monster Jam this weekend. You know, those obnoxiously loud Monster Trucks that jump over cars. We each wore a pair of the Optime 98 earmuffs at this event here is the pros and cons:Pro:- Fits perfectly on my son's head, and is comfortable enough for him not to try getting rid of them every thirty seconds (we removed the earmuffs during breaks in the program, though)- Fits perfectly on my (adult sized) head; very comfortable to wear, only my ears got a bit sweaty after a while- Dampens the noise level to a very comfortable level- Let's human (Daddy's ...) voice through from 1-2 ft distance (... son, don't climb there ...)- Sturdy construction; my son's fell on the concrete floor several times - not a scratch- Easy adjustment to ones head diameter- LightweightCons:None that I could think of ... well, the sticker on the side says "3M" instead of "Peltor" ... like I would care ...So, for me and my 3 year old son, these earmuffs worked perfectly for an indoor event with extremely loud music, engine noise and crowd. 5Effective and very comfortable ... Ordered these after obtaining a piece of Deere equipment that generates more noise than expected and ... these work just great ! Significant reduction in noise and very comfortable; they also fit well over a cap. I've been using the 3M Peltor Shotgunner Hearing Protector for years, so I expect these to be just as durable. I recommend these with confidence. 5Very pleased with these earmuffs These work great. I just bought them to go with my new cub cadet XT1 42 inch lawn tractor (I had to get the yellow and black to match the cub cadet colors lol). Its amazing how much noise these block out. I put them on at the start of mowing, 45 minutes later I took them off to talk to my neighbor. when I started my tractor I though something was wrong with it because it was so loud lol. Seriously, these really cut the lawn mower noise down tremendously. I have 2 minor complaints with them. When you look at them you think to extend them you simply pull on the wires just below the head band but you would be wrong. The extenders are in the little black sleeves attached to the side of the ear phones. Once you get that, its easy to adjust. My second complaint is also minor, I dont think you can really avoid this but after about an hour and a half on an 85 degree day, my ears did start sweating from them being enclosed. Minor issue to save your hearing. 5Gentle on the ears with great sound cancellation. I did a lot of research before I bought these. I have very sensitive ears and ear muffs have always hurt. However, the reviews for this product assured me that they were very soft and comfortable. And they are. I use them to just be silent and read. I only use them in the house, so I can't tell you how well they work in loud conditions. But I fell asleep with them on a few weeks ago. So, that should say something. 5Good Choice For Shop Use These are comfortable and fairly light weight. My brother came over to work on a project and I noticed he had bought the 3M muffs that were rated for more sound attenuation than these, but they were bulkier and had tighter spring pressure. For safety and comfort you want to cut noise down to a level that won't cause long term damage to hearing, but it isn't necessary to achieve near silence, so I'm happy with these. Sometimes I like to listen to audio books while I work, and I can put the ear buds in and listen at normal volumes while wearing these earmuffs, they are comfortable enough to wear for hours with no discomfort. Comfort is key, if the muffs get taken off they can't protect you, so get something you can put on and keep on. I like these because they don't clamp too tight on my head, they are light weight, and they do a good job of reducing the noise from power tools. 5Pair these with inexpensive earbuds and the result is equivalent to $300 Bose units If you want the equivalent of a pair of $300 Bose noise cancelling headphones, pick up a pair of these and a pair of Panasonic earbuds for about $10. Snaking the very thin wires of the Panasonics under the padding of these things yields great sound at a price that's 10% of the Bose units. And, quite frankly, these fit more firmly and are lighter than the Bose units. Folks may look at you strangely when you do this, but the results are great! 5In the words of Lil Jon.... Whaaaaat! Yeaaaaaah! OKKKKKKK! In the words of Lil Jon.... Whaaaaat! Yeaaaaaah! OKKKKKKK! That is what you will be saying if you buy these. My kids use them for going to events that are really loud. Sometimes they just enjoy using them when they are doing their homework and their brother or sister is being loud. They do what they are supposed to do with is block out the sound. 5He was very pleased to get them and used them right away I purchased this item as a father's day gift for my boy friend's father. He wears a hearing aid and needs to protect his ears and the hearing aids while he is cutting grass. He was very pleased to get them and used them right away. He is now able to wear his hearing aid while cutting grass were as before he had to remove his hearing aids. He said that they work really well and that there is also room in the ear piece to accomodate the small protrusion of his hearing aid that he uses to pull it out of his ear. He said that they work great and that he loves them. I am very happy with this purchase. 5Good, but not great. I have a half-dozen sets of ear muffs for different applications, and I also occasionally use foam plugs and hi-fi noise baffles. Never having intended to become an expert on hearing protection, I've become quite serious about it.These ear muffs are a good value. I like the yellow cans (very safe and visible), the price is great, and they are comfortable. However, they are difficult to adjust compared to other muffs I've used, and I think the wire frame for the headrest will eventually become bent.I have purchased two pair of the 3M Peltor X-Series (higher db rating) and they are excellent. The X-Series come in different ratings and price points, and I just think the frame is a superior design.Don't let this review discourage you though: If you're around any loud noise, can those ears with something, anything. Keep your hearing for life. 3
