Customer Reviews

A great buy, great product! Very comfortable and work beautifully! My kids are adorable in them. We used them at an air show for some of the older and REALLY loud planes. They're adjustable enough that they work from my 18m old up to my husband, comfortably. My kids LOVE to play with them. They're not noise cancelling, note...they're reducing. While I can hear my husband talking to me while sitting next to him, a lot of the "white noise" is reduced. Would be great for napping children on an airplane, perhaps? Nice flat and smooth sides, wouldn't be entirely uncomfortable to sleep with. 5Good value and performance! These 3M Peltor Optime noise suppressing headphones are a good value with good performance and looks at a reasonable price. The hard shell, soft cushions and stainless steel springs allow the headphones to be worn in dirty, wet environments and cleaned up afterward. They also allow ear buds to be worn underneath. Very versatile for prolonged wear lawn mowing, operating chainsaws and other power equipment. 5I no longer have to listen to people talk crap about each other I bought this to muffle the gossip of my co-workers. It works really well and I can wear it for hours. I no longer have to listen to people talk crap about each other. My life is greatly improved. 5Balances Protection, Comfort, Affordability, Mobility I work as an aircraft mechanic in a high-operations tempo environment... meaning I do a lot of running around, a lot of tumbling around, and get a lot of jets fixed to do a lot of flying. I've used numerous other forms of hearing protection: Peltor Shotgunners, Peltor H10 Optime, Bilsom Thunder, from what I can recall.I'll go over the various qualities of this product:-Slim designNot quite as slim as the Shotgunners, but definitely not as obstructive as the H10 Optime or Bilsom Thunder. For my line of work this is very nice, as we often work in tight spaces in or around the jets. Also, when running/tumbling around they aren't as prone to wriggle off your head.-ComfortThese offer a decent amount of comfort. They only started to get painful to wear after about three hours. They don't get to being uncomfortable/annoying until about an hour. The H10 Optime and Thunder has slightly more padding, but because they are bigger and heavier it makes them less comfortable overall to wear and gets irritating to wear very quickly... a general consensus among my workmates who vary by height, build, headshapes, earshapes etc. The Shotgunners have minimal padding... which is a key part of their slim design. Needless to say they aren't very comfortable either.-AffordableLess pricey compared to the Shotgunners, H10 Optime or Thunder. Yet this doesn't sacrifice much (if at all) in build quality or protection.-ProtectionThese offer slightly more protection than the Shotgunners, but not as much as the H10 Optime or Thunder. The difference is noticeable, but for an industrial area where jet engines reach over 100 dB, the protection is good. For this type of environment the Shotgunners provide an acceptable amount of protection.-RuggedI typically see Shotgunners last 6-12 months (they're not meant for this type of work environment anyway). The H10 Optime and Thunder are fairly rugged, but I think they last as long as they do because most of my people try not to wear them unless they really need to. My H6 Optime has lasted me four years, and was a hand-me-down. While they aren't meant to be tossed about or otherwise abused, I'm pleasantly surprised they lasted in my work environment. For folks who work as car mechanics, in woodshops, or otherwise low-operations tempo environments (where you aren't running around like a madman trying to get things done) these will last you at least twice as long. 5Excellent value For the price, this can't be beat. The earmuffs are comfortable, and block out a lot of noise. The fit is good, they aren't bulky at all, and the size is easily adjusted. I use these when I'm operating power tools mostly, so they are off and on. I can't speak to leaving them on for extended periods, but even with a normal to slightly smaller head, these are a bit snug. The lower part of the muff starts to press on the nerves below my ear, and behind my jaw, but not enough to cause irritation, at least for the amount of time I wear them. I suppose if you were trying to sleep in these, it might be a problem, but you may be able to gently stretch out the wire frame to loosen them a bit. Overall, I'm very happy with these, especially for such a great low price. 5Suggestion for Even More Comfortable 3M Ear Protector, also note this one is peach not white Review for: 3M Pelter H6A\V Optime 95 Noise Reduction EarmuffCOUNTER-SUGGESTIONALSO FROM 3M:----------------------If you are after comfort and don't need a lot of ear protection, which would be a good summary of this earmuff, you may prefer the 3M product below more:3M Tekk Protection Folding Earmuff (21dB reduction):- 3M TEKK Protection Folding EarmuffI expected the Peltor H6A\V Optime 95 to be the same product as that Tekk model, just packaged differently, but for whatever reason, the Tekk listed above tested as more comfortable for everyone that tried it on for me.OVERVIEW OF OPTIME 95:-------------------------Looks: These are not white like the picture, they are more PEACH COLORED with a big bright red 3M logo and big bold black writing. I think the picture is more attractive than the actual earmuffs, they should change it to the look in the picture :).Fit: These are ADJUSTABLE, to an extent, you can pull the headband extension further out of the black joints holding onto the earmuffs. As usual with most earmuffs, if you have a fairly big noggin you'll want to test this out after extending it to see if it fits soon after getting it.Protection: This is rated at only 21db (decibels) of protection, and 3M suggests in the real world the protection is half what ear protectors are rated, so expect roughly 10dB decibel reduction. This may be fine for an ELECTRIC LAWNMOWER or a HAND VACUUM, but I highly suggest a higher decibel rated earmuff for a gas lawnmower, gun range, construction tools, etc. Just FYI, that 10dB noise attenuation cuts the perceived loudness in half.SOME OF THE MANY OTHER COMPETING EARMUFFSWITH HIGHER PROTECTION AND REVIEWS THATSUGGEST RELATIVE COMFORT GIVEN THEIR NRRRATING:-------------------------------------------------- Dewalt DPG62-C Interceptor Protective Safety Earmuff- 3M Peltor 97069 President Hearing ProtectorSPECIAL COMFORT EARMUFF EAR PIECES:----------------------------------------- Peltor Aviation Parts & Ac Camelback Gel Sealing Rings HY80(couldn't find a link but they are on Amazon)Many 3M/Peltor earmuffs offer the option of swapping the ear pieces they came with for their HY80 gel ear pieces for comfort and long life. This earmuff is one of those models that can use them I confirmed. However, these earmuffs are so comfortable you might not get much value using HY80 ear pieces on them, but you can try. (Note they don't work with the Optime 101 or President ear muffs). 3DIDN'T COVER SNORING ! I have had to use this earmuffs to sleep in due to my neighbors extremely loud snoring and thin walls. Unfortunately I have come back to edit because I found I still hear the snoring with these on so I have to double up by wearing earplugs and the earmuffs. I have a lightly stuffed feather pillow, thin because I don't like my head raised very high due to neck problems. Without this type of easily malleablepillow I do not believe I could sleep in these. I am a woman with an extra smallhead and these adjust just fine. I could not adjust them without reading theinstructions ! I dislike that I was not sent a white color pair as shown. I am veryfussy about colors and I ordered them because the photo showed white. The colorthey sent is a pinkish flesh color. If you can get past the color they can help depending what you need. 2Very comfortable (size small works for my kids I have a very-sound sensitive 8 year old child (as in, have had to flee any fireworks, gun shots, or anything even mildly loud since she was a baby). Having a set of earplugs (that can be put in by her unobtrusively) and a set of ear muffs (when she is too scared to be self conscious) is a sanity saver for all of us.The small version fits her and her older sister perfectly, and is slightly small for my normal head sized-husband (way to small for giant-headed me). But with an open floor plan, I think I am going to get some bigger versions to have around the house. I realized they could be invaluable if the girls ever start humming tunes from Frozen when we are trying to read.PROS:Very comfortable (size small works for my kids, get larger for adults)They (semi) collapse to a somewhat smaller size (though do not fold down completely)Solid (I can thrown them into a backpack without worrying about them)CONS:Would be great if they folded down all of the way 5Peltor Quality & Design These are not so comfortable that I'd want to wear all day. That said they are probably as comfortable as possible. The design is better than any other brand i know of. Those 2 stainless wires that the overhead band consists of keep independent pressure at front and rear of cups. The cup hinge point close to head equalizes pressure top to bottom as well. And while these aren't rated as high for NRR as bulkier models, they are quiet enough to mow lawn and even drive metal T posts with driver. Like the cream color too. 5Great noise protection I agree with E. Mercado's thorough review totally: Balances Protection, Comfort, Affordability, Mobility and I will add Compact. I work on a locomotive engine which is cranked to 900 rpms even in the stop position. These provide a good amount of protection with the ability for me to also hear important radio transmissions. They do become a bit annoying after a few hours of wear, especially with safety glasses. But for me, it is well worth the alternative of wearing the pliable sponge ear plugs (inside my ear), which cause itching and irritation. I have an older version of this headset as well and what I really like is that I can fold and stick them in my personal satchel or work grip, without them taking up a considerable amount of space. They double for pistol range use also and have had them for over fifteen years. Highly recommended if looking for good hearing protection for a reasonable price. 5
