Customer Reviews

Used in a special stationary applicationI needed a means of mounting a lightweight camera with a boom in a stationary application, with something more sturdy and adaptable than a microphone boom stand with a camera mount adapter (my first attempt). This allowed me to mount a camera for live projection with the stand out of the way and the camera positioned high overhead. Though it's way more stable than a mic stand, it's not rock steady (i.e., if you bump it, it will oscillate a bit for a few seconds). I also ordered and used the separate "Tilt Brake" available directly from ProAm.I can't review it's real use as a dynamic motion jib, since I didn't use it for that purpose, but it sure makes a great stationary boom stand.5Student? Occasional use? OK. But...Keep reminding yourself "... but for the money..."Overall, this is an amazing value. The cost is so low, it is hard to complain. But I'll do so.I'm a do-it-yourself guy, and I expected to have to modify this jib to fit my needs. The sheet metal base it too weak, causing it to flex laterally (side-to-side). I milled a square plate to reinforce it and that helps a lot. A stack of fender washers might work well, but you have to do something here. There are no bearings, and the fit of bolts in drilled holes makes for slop. If you're careful and move smooth, you can get it to work fine, once you fix the base.I hung a D800 with a heavy lens and it works OK if I'm careful. If you rarely need a jib, then this once (once modified) makes good sense. But if you expect to use it often, I'd pass. I'd rather have a Kessler Pocket Jib Traveler. If you are a pro, go get the Kessler. For occasional use, this one can be made to work. Student on a budget? This is a good choice, because you can sell it to others students and go buy a Kessler. In fact, I think I'll finish my project and do just that.Summary: Good for the money - amazing perhaps. But it will need some work.3great jibI personally own 3 camera jib but this one is the best .I'm a wedding videographer ,I create great shot for my videos very lite jib.5A great entry pro / pro-sumer crane at a low costI have this model. It's a great little jib crane for the money. I use mine to produce youtube videos, and other productions I'm working on, and should have some vids with it in use in the near future.I like the centered configuration of the camera mount. You can get an extension cheese plate from ProAm for more possibilities. You can really park this crane in small spaces, and really throw the camera around the sky without hitting anything because of the way you can position the arm in it's yoke. I have mine so that 3 feet of arm extends out one side, and only a foot or so extends off the back end. That makes it much easier to work in a corner, for example.Sets up, and breaks down easily, and quickly. :)5Four StarsA little heavy and clunky but for the price it works great4great product for the moneyThis jib provides very smooth vertical movement for a great price. Counterweights are an absolute necessity, but are easily purchased at a sporting goods store. I use three 2.5 pound weights, and it's almost perfectly balanced with my Lumix GH2 mounted on the top.One caveat - if you extend the base to it's maxximum height, there can be a bit of a slow wobble at the end of the fully extended jib arm as the apparatus sways slightly. Not a big deal, though - if you just help steady the oscillation with one hand, the movement will dissipate in a few seconds. Just be aware of the possibility of this swaying at full extension before you start shooting. The tripod base is plenty solid, but offers no possibility for leveling the jib if you're on uneven ground outside. But, being a tripod, it's easy enough to slip a shim under one of the three legs to right it. I've used a sneaker slipped off my foot, and right-sized stone picked up from the groud, a piece of wood.Again, considering ther affordability, a really great piece of gear!5
