Customer Reviews

Made it easy.Nothing complicated here... just a harness that allows you to splice like-colored wires (red to red, violet to violet...) from this harness, to the harness provided by your aftermarket stereo's harness... then just plug this harness into the Mazda's harness... and the stereo works - is wired correctly to each speaker. Mazda's wires (and all auto wires) do not subscribe to the standard stereo color scheme. It made the job dummy-proof and this harness worked fine in my 2007 Mazda5.Note: the factory stereo is integrated with the steering wheel controls and the green LCD display at the top of the dash; this harness does not integrate with either; you need other stuff to keep the steering wheel controls working and I don't know how you'd make an aftermarket radio work with the LCD display. 52 Pins in wrong placeThis harness had 2 pins in the wrong place. Specifically, the 1P and 1N pins that are used by third party steering wheel control modules. I had to clip the wires in my car's existing harness and solder them directly to the wires of this harness. It was a pain but it worked. Otherwise this product worked as expected and I'm happy with end result. So as a word of caution, check that all the pins are in the right place in this harness to mate up with the pins in your car's harness prior to connecting SWC and Stereo wires to it. 3Wiring wrong on the harness. If you are buying this harness to install the " Pioneer AppRadio 4 SPH-DA120" into a 2007-2009 Mazda 3 the solid blue wire and the blue/white wire on the bottom left side of the harness need to be pulled completely out of the harness. The solid blue wire needs to go on the far right spot on the same row it is in and the blue/white wire needs to be placed to the left of the solid blue wire. If you don't do this the wires will not line up to the OEM harness correctly. Don't be gentle when pulling the wires out of the harness or you will strip the wire. Just grab a pair of needle nose pliers and yank it out. Getting them back in can be a little tricky, but it's possible. Have fun! 4Good productWorked fine for installing a Pioneer AVH-4100NEX in my 2013 Miata GT w/ Bose, but there is room for improvement. First, you will need to add two wires to this harness if you want to retain factory steering wheel controls. Second, Metra needs to offer a version of this harness with RCA connectors for use in cars with a factory external amplifier (such as Miatas with the Bose system). I first installed this harness using the speaker leads from the head unit and there was a hiss in the speakers at low volume levels so I soldered RCA connectors onto the harness to use the head unit preamp outputs and now it sounds perfect! 4Wish it had all the necessary pins.If you want to retain steering wheel controls you need to buy TWO of these because one doesn't contain all the pins you need. I would have much preferred the one harness to be complete. Luckily I was warned by others this was the case and ordered two. Sure enough the one I got didn't have the steering wheel control pins. Once you have purchased the second one there's a bit of fiddling with a paper clip to release and transfer the pins but it isn't too bad. 3Read previous reviews!Manufacturer needs to modify wiring harness for steering wheel interface kits and/or offer another version for 2008 Mazda MX-5. As mentioned in several reviews, I had to remove and relocate pins 1P & 1N to different positions in order to match vehicle wiring harness before installing which was not an easy task. Fortunately I was successful and now am returning extra harness purchased just in case I needed to steal both pins from second set as recommended by another reviewer. 3Nice, but I wish they included the 2 wires for the steering wheel controls in position 1N and 1P!Nice for my 2005 Mazda MPV, but I wish they included the 2 wires for the steering wheel controls in position 1N and 1P!I moved the pins from amp+ and ant+ over, as I didn't need those functions. Otherwise I'd have had to buy two of these, and steal the 2 pins from the 2nd unit. The pinout is on the BACK of the bag, and the wires are even labeled in plain english on the jacketing, which is a first for me, and great for my colorblind self! 4look for other option for 2006 Mazda Miata (MX-5) - if you don't have the tools or knowledge to reposition 2 pins.Purchased this harness to make the install easier. I would have given this a 5 star rating had I not run into the following issue. The Pin-Outs for the Steering Wheel Controls (SWC) were completely wrong. They didn't patch into anything. I installed it, re-installed it and the ASWC-1 wasn't detecting the SWC. Finally sat back and took a deeper look into what was occurring, and noticed that the pin-outs were incorrect. Fortunately, I had the tools necessary to reposition the 2 pins. Everything else, was fine.My Car: 2006 Mazda MX-5 (Miata). 2Perfect fit.I relocated 2 of the pins on the harness to allow my aftermarket HU to interact with the SWC. It works great! 5Too bad I didn't figure that out BEFORE I started wiring ...I bought two of these to scavenge pins as needed for illumination, steering wheel control, and antenna amplifier wiring. One of them came almost completely filled and included the wires, the other was missing two of them. Too bad I didn't figure that out BEFORE I started wiring it up. The wires all came pre-stripped, which was a godsend. Everything was clearly identified and labeled, so installation was a breeze. One of the connectors had a significant bend in the top, flat part shown in the picture, so it would have been a pain to install, so 4 stars for that inconsistent molding. To remove the pins, stick a small flathead screwdriver or piece of wire into the big hole next to the pin. PUSH the wire INTO the connector, wiggle the screwdriver or pin a little bit, then pull the wire out. Make sure to bend the locking tab slightly back up on the pin so it locks into the connector once installed. 4
