Customer Reviews

I should have got this years ago (I liked it so much I bought another)At over $100 for these things I was totally against buying one... "just to much money" I thought for a convenience.(speaking of finger print readers in general) But with the price of $55 it was much more reasonable. To be honest though I have already been a long time user of the software "RoboForm" I use it to manage all my passwords, Book marks, and Notes (kinda of like evernote)With RoboForm I have totally broke the habit of having the same password for everything. RoboForm keeps track of all my passwords. and now with the fingerprint reader I can have a ridiculously long "Master Password" and the fingerprint reader will enter that long password with the flick of my finger.Just remember! to use the fingerprint reader, your user account on your windows computer MUST have a password set.I have tested this unit with Windows 7 Pro, Windows 7 Ultimate, and Windows 8.1 ProfessionalI have not tested this unit with other password managers. I am a serious fan of RoboForm and use it to manage literally thousands of passwords. but RoboForm is not JUST a password manager it is a form filler, a note manager, and password generator, and even has a contacts feature. As much as I like RoboForm. It only includes a starter version of it with this reader. So don't judge this fingerprint reader based on the limited functionality of RoboForm lite. The base is all steal and has anti-slip rubber on the bottom. It's fairly heavy and does not slide around when you are trying to scan your finger. It also seems very accurate. It recognizes the fingers that I have registered and denies the fingers that I have not registered. This device makes it easy to keep user account control on and have session timeouts short. You just have to flick a finger to put your 20+ character passwords in. 5The time-tested model of choice for injured I.T. veteranAs a almost 30 year veteran in the technology industry, I have used many different brands and the various types of fingerprint scanners. When I suddenly lost the use of one of my hands, I was left having to type with one hand - not an easy task just try it for a few hours yourself.Giving up all security in my profession and level of network access was also not a possibility. Try repeatedly typing complex very long passwords all day long with only one hand - it is VERY time consuming and frusterating just to unlock a workstation.Enter the Verifi P2000. I went out on a limb and ordered this brand based on some very good Amazon reviews. I was not disappointed. This scanner literally saved me HOURS of time every day just authenticating to different systems, password databases, etc.Well, note that I forgot to write my review - that was early 2013. It has been over two and a half years and I can report it literally works as well as the day I bought it. What's worse (or better speaking to quality) - I have literally only ever run a lint-free micro cloth with the LCD screen cleaner a couple of times to clean it in all that time. I have had it plugged into the same USB3 pluggable brand externally powered hub since I first plugged it in running on Windows 7 64bit.I hated the "Fingerprint" login screen so I even figured out how to change one small registry branch of keys permisions and statically set one set of values at every login to match my login ID, so that now upon locking or login it actually shows "MYuserID" vs "Fingerprint" and behaves exactly as if I am manually logging in and unlocking. I use multiple fingers with what I would gauge as being approximately 98% accurate over 2.5 years - very seldom do I ever have to rescan my finger a second time, it really has been that accurate.I am actually writing this review because I have returned and am again having issues with my tendon transplant hand so may have to get another one and am elated to see that the exact model is still available with what appears to be no major changes - don't fix it if it aint broke and mine definitely aint broke! :) 5WORKS WITH LASTPASS AND WINDOWS 10 (1709)Having spent way too much time researching these devices prior to purchase my hope is this will save you some heartburn and time if your goals are like mine. Simply put, it does what I wanted it to do which was be able to login to Lastpass with my fingerprint. This was my number one goal but having the ability to login to my windows machine is also a nice bonus and will allow me to set a stronger password if I desire. In performing the research there were many conflicting reviews. Not only for this device but others as well. Works with windows 10, does not work, works with Lastpass, does not work, needs drivers, does not need drivers, bla, bla, bla. My thought on this was that nobody listed what exact version of Windows they were running and the only way to see if it worked was to bite the bullet. So, I did and I m glad I chose this one. Yes, it is more expensive, but I liked the idea of having the device sit on my desktop instead of needing to reach for a USB port to find a dongle . That in and of itself was worth a little more to me and obviously it need to work.If you have the above goals you can stop reading now but if you want specifics continue on. My version of windows is 1709 (aka Windows Fall Creators Update). I did NOT install anything from the mini CD that was included in the box. Simply plugged it in and watched the device get setup. Once that was complete it was listed under device manger in the category Biometric devices and specifically called an Authen Tec Inc. AES2550 . I then navigated to Windows Settings >> Accounts >> Sign-in options >> Setup Fingerprint. It should be noted that prior to installing the reader my computer reported that my device was not compatible with Windows Hello and afterwards this was no longer the case. Even though I do have a Logitech Web Cam apparently due to it s age it was not supported by Hello. Anyway, I went through the wizard to register a finger print and Windows told me I needed to create a PIN. I find that ridiculous considering most people think of a pin as a 4-digit number and this seemed like a step backward in security. Not so fast Kowalski Just click the box that says allow alphanumeric characters and you can enter anything you like. Since I was perfectly content with my already established password, I simply used that. Bingo, ready to roll. CTL-ALT-Delete >> Lock >> swipe finger >> UNLOCK. Perfect! As for Lastpass it wasn t quite as simple but not difficult at all. Open your vault >> Account Settings >> Multifactor Options. In the Multifactor Authentication Premium section (YES YOU NEED TO BE A PREMIUM SUBSCRIBER) there is an icon that looks like a fingerprint. It will be disabled. Click on the pen icon to set it up. In my case it said something about needing to install a binary component and to click here . I did this, and it told me that I needed to close my browser for the changes to take effect. Since I was using Chrome and in my experience sometimes Chrome likes to run in the background I simply re-booted. This was also a good test to see how my shiny new finger print reader worked to login. Answer. Flawlessly. Anyway, I digress. I went back to the same section in Lastpass and to my dismay it was still disabled. I clicked the pen again, clicked here to enable and this time it downloaded the desktop application. I ran the installer and repeated the same steps. Now when I went back in to the fingerprint setting I could successfully enable the service. It asked me to enter my Master Password and swipe my finger. After that I was good to go. I logged out of Lastpass, opened Chrome, clicked on the grey Lastpass Icon, it asked me to swipe my finger and I was in. I will now change my master password to something crazy and not need to remember it. Of course, I will write it down and store it in a safe place just in case. If you use Lastpass on a mobile device, you may not want a crazy password but my phone also has a fingerprint reader (as do most newer phones and tablets) so I am in luck. I m not going to get into the mobile setup here but know that you can set it up to login with a fingerprint. As for what you get in the box don t expect much. It is a plain cardboard box with the reader and a mini CD. Nothing else. No instructions or anything but hopefully you won t need any if you follow the steps above. All in all I am pleased with this purchase and can recommend it if your system is running Windows 10 1709. It may or may not work with prior versions, so your mileage may vary. Good luck! 5Great on Windows 10, Except when the Drivers Stop Working....After upgrading to Windows 10, I decided that I wanted to try Windows "Hello" which is for alternate login methods. I purchased this fingerprint reader and overall have been happy with it. I set it up with a domain account at work and now I can log in and unlock my machine with the swipe of a finger.I would say overall that it works just as it should, but randomly I have found that the driver will stop working. When it does, I have to go into the Device Manager and uninstall the driver and reboot. Then it will work until it happens again. It has maybe happened 5 or 6 times in the past couple of months I am hoping this is just something that will be fixed with later updates of Windows 10, but for now it is sometimes a pain.I still think it is worth the occasional issue for the speed that it allows me to login with. 4Device is Perfect once you get it going! This is a great little product and I love that it makes using my password filler and logging into Windows so effortless. Set up for me was not as straightforward as expected. You have to read very carefully and not just click on what you think (and what seem to be the install files) on the CD. You have to read the explicit instructions which I still found to be not as easily understood as they could have been. But I could've been out of it as well! I clicked the incorrect install files and thereafter, that prevented an easy install. I had to Google how to enable Biometrics in Win 8.1 and figured it out that way. And then it setup pretty easily.I hope they enable or add Windows 10 support in the future because this is a must-have device. Overall once working the product is five stars. I would just ask the with a little cleanup of the install directions this is a five star product 5works great, and very accurateThis figerprint sensor is very accurate and works great. Sturdy, solid construction. No more huge long passwords to enter at my login screen! So far, out of maybe 50 scans, it has worked every time on the first attempt. Pretty impressive. Just follow the instructions, install the drivers in order, and BEFORE you plug in the sensor.UPDATE: After using this fingerprint reader daily for over a month, I can report that it has, quite amazingly, been no less than 100% accurate in recognizing my fingerprint. I'm so astonished by this, that sometimes I try to scan a finger that I have not registered (trained it to recognize), just to see if it's working. It appears to be working fine, as every time I scan an "unregistered" finger, it correctly denies access. I even have friends try to scan their fingerprints, and it (correctly) denies them. I can't understand why anyone would give this device less than 5 stars, unless maybe they didn't follow the instructions. For reference, my system is running Windows 7 (64-bit) with all the latest patches. 5Drivers not compatible. Failed to work after shutdownI'm one of those computer geeks you call when your computer goes wonky. My old fingerprint reader (Biokey) had stopped working consistently so I got a "better" one. The packaging was 'minimal' to say the least--small cardboard box with the reader in a plastic bag. No documentation, no drivers, no website to reference. I went up to Verifi.com and found an app. Hoping it would install the drivers, I installed the app. It's useless and I've already uninstalled it. I noticed that the device was auto-recognized by Windows 10 but the device "reported a problem" and failed to work more than once. Intrigued if it might be a driver issue, I hunted around to find the device is obsolete but there were lots of sites willing to install malware to "fix" the problem. I finally found a workable driver. The device itself is labeled "P2000" but the firmware told Windows that it's an AuthenTec, Inc. AES2550 device. So, the bottom line is, if you aren't a guru, or know one and willing to give up a dozen chocolate chip cookies (my standard fee), don't bother with this device. As to the reader, it seems to work fine once the right drivers are installed. But so did my old one--for a while.Nope it failed after each shutdown or slumber. I sent it back. 1I like the construction; it's nice and heavy, metal, and doesn't move around when you're using it.I like the convenience of logging into my PC with a fingerprint, but I have an issue with this unit where about once a week it just stops being recognized by the computer ("The attached USB device is no longer functioning"). I've tried it at different workstations and in different offices and always, after a few days, it just stops working and needs to be unplugged & plugged back in.I like the construction; it's nice and heavy, metal, and doesn't move around when you're using it. Before I bought this I spent a bit of time trying to decide if I'd prefer a single-touch model over the slide type. The other one was more expensive and I went with this one, but having used it for a couple years now I think if I were to buy another I'd go for the single-touch version. This one is pretty accurate, but there are times (more often than I expected) when my hands are full and I end up having to try multiple times because I can't get the angle just right. 3Great when it works, but it often doesn't.We ordered several of these for use in our network. Our network policy requires an inactivity timeout of 5 minutes so we are typing in our password all the time. Installation was simple and straight-forward: install driver, plug in device, go to control panel, register fingerprint, check the Allow user to log on to a domain using their fingerprints checkbox. When the device works it works great but, unfortunately, it often doesn t work. After a while the device just stops working and unplugging and plugging it back in is the only remedy, not exactly convenient if your computer is tucked away under a desk. The other problem is that with the device plugged in, the keyboard and mouse hiccup for several seconds every couple of minutes. This makes typing anything next to impossible with the device plugged in. These problems are consistent across multiple models of Dell computers (all with Windows 7 pro x64)I spent some time communicating with Zvetco s technical support and they made some recommendations but were ultimately unable to get the device to work properly on our Dell systems. Their representative did tell me that the higher end model (P5100) uses a different driver set that would very likely fix the problem. I was offered a 20% discount on the more expensive P5100 s for my trouble, which was nice. 2Usually works wellI bought this a couple years ago for my PC at home running Win 10. Apart from signing in with a swipe of the finger, there's also other neat things you can do with it, like have it replace your passwords online. I never bothered with it, but you can look it up. It's pretty much plug-and-play, but you do have to set up your profile in Windows, which isn't hard. It's designed for desktops. The scanner itself is right next to my keyboard on my desk, rather than a dongle on the tower. If you're looking for a laptop solution, then there's better options. Despite that, it's really well-built. The scanner seems to be made of solid aluminum and hard plastic. The only problem is that once in a blue moon, it will just stop working. The only solution is to unplug it and plug it back in. Of course, it's plugged into the back of my PC, and with my terrible cable management, it's kind of a pain in the tuchus. It reads well, it's pretty rugged, and other than the plug-it-back-in thing, I've never had a problem with it. 4
