Customer Reviews

Worked out great after a quick replacement from Sabrent I have revised this review:Sabrent went out of their way to quickly replace the original Hub with a new one.The new one works great and the switches allow me to switch between USB inputs and still use a non powered hub.The USB 3.0 speed is fantastic.I have to commend Sabrent for their outstanding customer service in this matter.I also find this product to be of great quality. There will always be some duds in a product run but its how they are resolved for the customer.Thank you Sabrent. My old review is below.........*************************************************************************Causes a conflict in Windows, blue screen, for some reason.I hooked it up with a USB 3.0 extension cable as the cable on this hub is way to short. Now for the issue. The computer was fine before this hub was hooked up. Once hooked up late in the day it produced 2 blue screens, that is a critical Windows error message requiring a reboot. The next day it did the same thing early on. I disconnected the hub and its been fine now 3 days later. Obviously something in the hub is causing an issue with the system and the blue screen. Now this is with nothing connected to it.On the positive side it did allow for very fast speeds in backing up 8 gigs of files to my external hard drive with its own PS. So it does work and the switches would have been nice in that I could have left that drive hooked up and just switched off till needed. The only thing I can figure is that something in the hub was defective and causing a sporadic short forcing the blue screen. Now with that said I will just relegate this hub to the computer parts storage box as I do not want to risk damaging my computer.I'll experiment with it when I get time. Also I do use USB 2.0 hubs on both of my computers with no issues. Its just very strange. For me it just did not work out. 5Hub causes drives to randomly dismount. Junk, Hub causes drives to randomly dismount. I got this to connect external hard drives (Drives have their own power supplies) to my SFF PC when I encode video. I connected it, started an encode, and about 20 minutes into the encode, I heard the Windows hardware disconnect tone followed by the error tone from the next room. When I came into the room, the encoding software had thrown an File I/O error and froze. After force closing and restarting the software, I discovered the associated files had been corrupted. Thinking it was a software issue I moved to the next file and restarted the encode. This time I was working in the same room and caught the moment when the external hard drive disappeared from "Computer" and the hardware disconnect tone played again, followed again by the same File I/O Error. The drive subsequently reappeared, once again the files were corrupted. I removed the hub and only plugged the one drive I needed at this point into the PC and started the next encode, encode has been running for an hour now without issue. I haven't had any issues before installing the hub, and no issues since removing the hub. Browsing the reviews I find this is a common issue with this hub, usually blamed on moving the hub but mine was not touched anytime near when the issues occurred. I am returning this, DO NOT TRUST THIS FOR DATA TRANSFERS! 1Its effectively useless So I bought this to plug my keyboard and mouse into. The keyboard lights up but won't work at all with this device. Tried plugging my USB to Ethernet cord in it... it doesn't work.It says it can withstand a consumption of 900mA but my keyboard Is only 500mA. Mouse consumption is only 100mA, so either I got a dud or this hub is actually USB 2.0 which can only handle up to 500mA. Either way there's some dishonesty in the advertising here. What good is a USB hub that you can only plug one device in. You get what you pay for I guess. Sending this back asap. 1Consumer mistake in picking the right device and the Company reps helped me out with above average customer service! My initial rating was 1 star - why? because I plugged my Ipad in and my iphone to charge. I was excited. 24 hours later, the hub died.Howver, that was MY FAULT. I did not realize that this was a hub and not a charger. I contacted Derek at Sabrent who apologized (even though it was not his fault, i am the silly ignorant consumer) and educated me about the different options for charging. He told me about the Sabrent Multiport charger and was able to offer that to me at a discounted rate. I sent the original hub back to amazon, but I was thoroughly impressed by Sabrent's Consumer relations and their diligence in helping an non-techy consumer. I will choose Sabrent products in the future because of their customer service. If you are looking for a hub - get the 4 port hubif you are looking to charge multiple devices - get the sabrent device below.Sabrent 60 Watt (12 Amp) 10-Port Family-Sized Desktop USB Rapid Charger. Smart USB Ports with Auto Detect Technology [Black] (AX-TPCS) 5Sabrent USB 3.0 hub - worst product concept ever! Worst USB device I ve purchased to date in 25 years.Though it connects USB devices the powered BUS buttons seem like a great idea to swap out drives at the push of a button. The problem is that no matter where on the device whether in front of or behind another connection in the chain, if you power off a button, it shuts the power distribution off to all on the line for a registered micro second causing any computer or Mac to register your other devices as ejected or unplugged inappropriately. Terrible circuitry and would NOT recommend this product at all. It works by powering to all ports; but DON T touch ANY of the individual power buttons as this wreaks havoc and is nothing more than a worthless gimmick! Forget trying to use a Time Machine backup drive on this device as you ll just interrupt everything only to start over. Honestly, this device sucks worse than any USB multi port I ve ever bought... 1Should be a 5-Star product, but one MASSIVE defect makes it useless. Let me begin this review by saying that I want to give this product five stars. It is truly an excellent little USB Hub and I am beyond impressed by its performance and speed for the price. There is, however, one critical flaw in my particular hub that based on other reviews is a fairly common problem, and that is if the cord moves even the slightest bit, it momentarily interrupts the flow of data/power, causing all devices to be disconnected. As a producer who was hoping to use this hub in my home studio and for live performances, this is absolutely unacceptable as I cannot have my midi controllers, audio interface, and hard drive disconnected in the middle of writing or, worse yet, in the middle of a live set!I have never had USB connection issues with my laptop before, so I have become truly frustrated with this connectivity issue. Like I said, this BY ALL MEANS should be a 5-Star product, but the connectivity defect has rendered this hub entirely useless for me.I suppose the only bright side is that I am now in need of more that four ports, and have been looking to upgrade to a powered hub anyways, but because of this defect, I am seriously questioning whether or not to buy it from Sabrent.CONCLUSION: Good product IN THEORY. BUT disconnects when moved even slightly. Many people have had zero issues. It's your gamble. 1Great USB expansion for better productivity. Originally brought 2 of these 6 months ago for me and my wife's laptops to expand the existing USB ports from 3 to 7 (A HP Pavilion DVT8-1200 and a Dell XPS Studio 1747) for wifi dongles, mouse, keyboard and normal flash drives (The ports on the Laptops are USB 2.0). Being happy with the results of the original 2 we ended up buying 4 more for 3 of our Laptops (2 of them being new) and 1 desktop (also new). The new Laptops with only having 2 USB Ports if you are lucky really helps gets the productivity out of our Laptops.PROS:- 4 USB ports- Each individual port can be turn on or off- USB 2.0 and 1.1 backward compatible (The lowest I have is USB 2.0)- Blue light to indicate if the USB port is on or off.- Plug and play, No drivers need to be pre-installedCONS: By design none but just a heads up for higher powered devices like an USB external drive due to the power requirements may still need to be plugged into the PC/Laptop directly.Overall: Could not be happier, Would recommend for your PC and Laptops that only give between 2 to 4 ports. 5Good USB 3 hub. One minor issue - It appears to be a pretty solid USB 3 hub. Nice to have buttons that turn power on or off to each port.Be aware sometimes plugging in a new high power or data device may pause another port briefly. For example, when I plugged a portable hard drive in, the moment I pushed the power button to that port, my audio interface plugged into a different port disconnected briefly, before reconnecting. Then both were connected and seemed to work fine. But there may be an issue with high power devices affecting other ports.Other than that it is a solid unit with plenty of ports. 4Really Excellent Product! Unlike USB 3.0 hubs I've tried in the past, this one works very well. I bought 2 of these hubs, and I've got one plugged into the other, effectively giving me an additional 7 free USB 3.0 ports. To my surprise, it appears that the data transfer rate is not impacted by this configuration. Transfers are fast and reliable. I've copied several terabytes from one external drive to another, both of which were connected via the Sabrent USB hubs, without a single hiccup. I also tried a test case wherein I had 3 separate large file copies in progress, at the same time, between 3 different external drives, and everything worked! Of course, the transfer rate for each individual copy was slower, but, in the aggregate, the USB 3.0 data rate was maintained.I really, really like the individual buttons for each USB input port which allow me to selectively enable/disable inputs - the buttons were a key reason I went with this Sabrent model. So, for example, I have 4 external drives hooked up to one Sabrent hub, but I only want to "bring online" the particular drive(s) which I need at the moment. I'm using WD 8TB MyBook external drives which automatically power down when they detect no connection on the USB 3.0 port, so I save power (and wear and tear) on the drives I'm not actively using, and I avoid the clutter and confusion of mounting unneeded drives. One final note on my configuration: As I mentioned, I have one of these hubs (call it the "slave hub") plugged into a second hub (call it the "master hub"). Plugged into the slave hub, I have 4 self-powered WD 8TB MyBook external drives which I selectively enable/disable according to my needs at the moment. (BTW, works fine if I enable all 4 at the same time!) In the master hub, this leaves me 3 free USB 3.0 ports (recall that the slave hub uses up the 4th port). Anyhow, for good measure, I'm using a Sabrent 2.5A power supply to provide power to the master hub, just in case I want to plug in devices which are not self-powered. I should hasten to add that, even without power supplied to the master hub, testing shows that I can successfully plug in at least one WD portable (non-self-powered) 4TB drive. However, I decided to go with a powered hub in case I ever want to plug in multiple non-self-powered USB devices. Note that you can order the Sabrent 4-port USB 3.0 hub with and without the little power supply.Overall, I'm exceedingly pleased with this product. Nicely made, very attractive and low-profile, and, best of all, it works really well. I will be purchasing an additional one of these for my other laptop. 5Worse than useless, poor quality overall As another reviewer noted, this hub has a critical flaw: moving the cord even the slightest bit interrupts the flow of data/power, causing other devices to be disconnected. But it s actually worse than that. There are four power switches, one for each port -- but you better not dare use them, unless you boot with all your usb devices connected and all power switches on, and leave things that way. Otherwise, pressing any of the power buttons to send power to another device will disconnect devices that are already powered -- in the same manner as if you bumped the power cable. If Sabrent had not included the power switches, this hub might at least be usable for me.Yet, even if the switches had worked properly, I doubt they would have worked for long. The construction seems extremely cheap. As I took it out of the box, I was reminded of the junk they give away as freebies at the state fair, or the toy surprise that used to come with Crackerjack -- this hub was certainly a surprise. To be fair: though this is the poorest quality hub I ve ever owned out of probably a dozen, it is also the least expensive. And as other reviews suggest, it may work for some users. If you don t plan to use the switches and never bump the cable, you might luck out.But of course, the switches are why I bought it: I was hoping to avoid messing with physically connecting and disconnecting my usb drives, but to select which drives were needed via the switches. I do that quite efficiently on two other computers with two other hubs that also have switches. I took a chance on this one because of its low price, and for what I paid, I won t bother to return it. But it s going in the trash as soon as I finish this review, since I don t dare trust it with my data. 1
