Customer Reviews

It actually works, if you know the secret sauce! I bought this as a last ditch effort to get my circa 2013 Denon AVR with wired only Ethernet access on my wireless network without having to run an impossible cable run. It took me about 1/2 hour (and I have 2 degrees in Comp Sci and Electrical Engr) to get it even to recognize the network. After that I did some Google searches and ran across a page that explained that there is a secret menu hidden in the device at 192.168.1.252/menu.asp. Once I did that I was presented with a plethora of options including setting a static IP address and even changing the base address of the bridge to my 10.20.x.x network. As a 192 device it's useless if your home doesn't have a 192.x.x.x setup.Using the menu and a few reboots, I not only managed to change it to my 10 network but also assign a static IP to it so I can access my Denon AVR from my browser whenever I want. The instructions are vague and the online manual even worse. But I won't take away a star for people just not knowing how to write a decent instruction manual.End result, I connected it to my Denon, powered it up and entered the IP address in my browser and up popped the Denon configuration menu! It also remembers all the changes across power outages but you can do a manual reset in case you need to.So this is a great solution for adding wireless to just about any legacy wired device. Being you can assign static IP addresses you can have as many of these puppies installed all over the house as you'd like. A good solution without many other options available like this. 5A Must Have Networking Device! For the past few weeks it's been working great. I connected this to my home router when I realized that tethering a wireless data plan became more affordable than the only available landline internet provider left in my area. (note: Do not do this unless you really know how much data you actually consume!) All my computers, tablets, magicJack, and phones connect to the router which is connected to the hotspot device by means of this IOGEAR universal Ethernet to WiFi adapter. It works well enough that I can surf the web, stream Netflix, and the magicJack still amazes me.To set up the adapter, you can use the WPS button, or If you're technically literate, here's the manual method:1. Connect the power cord in the normal way and connect the IOGEAR adapter to the Ethernet port of a computer where you have admin control.2. Manually configure your computer's Ethernet to use IP address 192.168.1.3 with a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0 then restart your Ethernet.3 Open a browser and go to 192.168.1.252. After the page loads, click the "Sitesurvey" button to see the list of Available WiFi signals.4. Use the interface to connect to the WiFi of your choice. It's pretty straight forward.5. Reset your computer's Ethernet port back to "Automatic", and test that the network connection is working normally.6. (Optional) Remove the IOGEAR Universal Ethernet to WiFi adapter from the computer and put it on the device of your choice. 5Great way to connect ethernet-only devices! I bought this in order to setup a Vonage VoIP phone in my house in a location that was nowhere near an ethernet port. I also did not feel like using the powerline adapters that are out there, so I gave this a try. Setup was extremely easy. I had the phone up and running within 5 minutes of taking the product out of its box. I simply used WPS and it connected with no problems. I have been using it for about 3 weeks now and have not had any connection issues at all. If you're looking for a way to connect an ethernet-only device to your wifi network, I'd highly recommend this. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask. And please mark my review as helpful if it was indeed helpful to you! 5Perfect Bridge and DHCP Server I'm guessing my needs for this product are a little different than most shoppers. I wanted to bridge the wifi signal from my grandfathered Verizon unlimited phone with my ethernet network, so that the computers scattered around my house each had a strong internet connection, and to bypass Windows Homegroup issues entirely by providing a single network connection. I doubted this would work, quite honestly, but with minimal effort I had it up and running in under an hour. Now I have a proper lan and can share across my network without Homegroups. Thanks so much to the reviewers who mentioned the 'secret squirrel' configuration page for this device. Without those configuration options, this would not have worked for me. I'm going to mention it again in case anyone missed it. After following the directions in the manual, you can navigate to 192.168.1.252/menu.asp to access the advanced options. These options turn this little device into a very powerful tool. In my case I was able to change the adapter from DHCP client to DHCP server. From there I just plugged it into my TP-Link 8-port switch TP-Link 8-Port Gigabit Ethernet Desktop Switch (TL-SG108) and the switch distributed internet to all my devices, with dynamic IPs provided by the Iogear adapter.Easy Peasy. I cannot overemphasize how many little problems this device solved for me. Being a shadetree techy in an area without reliable internet is the pits, man. Just the worst. 5Worked perfectly to improve Vizio smart TV download capability Bought this because my new Vizio D48-DO smart TV wasn't so smart receiving WiFi signals. Streaming video needed to frequently buffer when only had WiFi input from my router. Using a temporary direct cable input the download speed was no problem. My iPad etc. in the same location also had no problem downloading at high speed rate (17mbps) so I figured the difficulty is Vizio WiFi reception. The location of my ISP/modem/router was such that that running a permanent cable was not feasible. Given these findings I decided to see if direct Ethernet input using this IOGEAR WiFi internet adapter would work. The set up with WPS was easy (Push and HOLD IOGEAR WPS button till light flashes). To my surprise the WiFi to Ethernet connection worked perfectly!! Vizio videos etc now stream without buffering etc. just like when connected directly with Cat 5 cable. Well worth the $. 5Worked Great - It's now junk This device works great. I'm using it with a Tivo MiniVox which otherwise needs to be hardwired to the router which is also hardwired to the Tivo Roamio in the family room. Using this IOGear Ethernet 2 Wifi adapter, its eliminated the need for an impossible cable run. I can now use a Mini in our Master Bedroom. Setup could be a little easier, though. My router interface is easier to use than this device. The instructions are good but the process should be easier. I would have given it five stars if setup were easier. The device deserves a 5, setup deserves a 2.Update: May 23rd - this unit is useless as it's now intermittent and won't hold a signal. That's $41 I'll never see again. I DO NOT recommend this device. 1Yes the item arrived on time. I am using ... Yes the item arrived on time. I am using it for my rather large Xerox 6280DN that my wife won't let me bring into the house. The product description and the package does not offer the option for printers. A network connection is a network connection. Set it up in the garage, followed the setup instructions (you need a laptop with an ethernet port) and it worked right away. I am able to control it from my main desktop. I then went to Xerox, found and used the most recent Global PCL drivers. Once connected and printing, I then changed the IP address to manual via my Chrome Browser.I am using Windows 7 Professional but I am sure that the same would go for Windows 8.1 and 10; if you follow the directions. 5Extreme packet loss, dropped connections. Unless you have an older router and a very strong signal this will not work. WPS setup does not work, requiring a manual setup. Unit connected, showed 53% signal stream, while other equipment in the same location show 100%. Packet loss was so high it could not even complete loading a web page. Terrible, poor quality product. The router used was a LinkSys WRT3200ACM MIMO, no issues with any of the other 8 wireless devices in my home. 1Works perfectly! Does exactly what it says! This handy little device acts as a wifi antenna for any device that does not have wireless capabilities itself! If the device is able to be connected via Ethernet, you simply connect an Ethernet cable from that device to this one! Set up was quite easy on my laptop, after which I plugged in my amcrest security system to this unit. It put the system on our home network and allowed it to connect to the internet immediately! This device does need to be plugged in separately for power, however... either to a powered USB port or to a wall outlet, using the included USB cable and wall adapter. The cable is mini USB to USB. Also comes with a short Ethernet cable. Each cable is probably about 2' long. The wall adapter will not block other adjacent electrical sockets/plugs in a power strip or wall outlet. 5Turn Surveillance camera into Nanny Cam or use to avoid pulling wires I used this to connect an IP camera to my surveillance system that I can then use as a "nanny cam" in our kids room, we didn't want to run Cat5 because we wanted to keep it portable. works great and streams smoothly. When settting this up read and follow every step. do NOT try to just figure it out. I deal with electronics and network gear at work all the time and I thought surely I can get this set up by myself. Nope. Read the instructions or it will be a frustrating experience.***Update - 9/8/16***Has been 5 months now and unit has been streaming 720 HD video clearly and smoothly 24/7. absolutely love this unit and will be purchasing a few more for family members with kids that also want a portable camera. we use this with a surveillance app(Wirepath) on our iPad so while we're downstairs watching movies we can still keep tabs on the kids. 5
