Customer Reviews

Works for me.I have two of these. I sit them on shelves, one by the back door and one by the garage door. I use them with a X10 TM751 Wireless Transceiver Module and two X10 Socket-Rocket Screw-In Lamp Modules. When I come in at night, two lamps turn on. One in the first room and one farther into the house giving me time to get in and turn on lights. Work great. Also warns me when my grandson comes in unannounced before he can give me a scare as he used to do. He used to think it was so funny when I jumped and practically had a heart attack.I can't speak to mounting and programing problems others have had, I just used them right out of the box with factory settings. 4Works perfectly.I m honestly surprised X 10 stuff is still around as I ve been using it over 20 yrs now. I shopped for modern alternatives but nothing was time adjustable like this and it works with pcs I already have! I have it set up to control my under-cabinet lights as soon as I walk into the kitchen. Works perfectly! 5there really should be something better than thisthere really should be something better than this, but apparently there isn't. 'Plug and Play' it ain't! "Some Language Skills" are required- specifically those 4 letter words reserved for anything to do with a computer. In their favour they have very good and responsive tech support- ask a question in the morning and they'll likely answer you the same day! The ranges they quote are a bit exaggerated, but I have got the system to work finally. The units are tiny, which is good now that it works, but a pain when you are trying to set it up. As noted elsewhere they are in desperate need of an intelligent industrial designer. 4Not waterproof. If outside, they must be sheltered. These motion sensors work well...until they get wet. I have 4 of them, all outside. One is under a porch roof, but the others are out in the weather. After 7 months, all 3 of the ones that were exposed to the weather have stopped working. there are visible water droplets in the sensor screen. They are just not waterproof.I will probably replace them and build shelters for them to keep the rain off of them.I'm disappointed that they are not suitably for outdoor installations. 1Does not always come on or go off at dusk/dawmAt dusk the unit switches the lights on and off several times, sometimes remaining on and sometimes off. When I get up in the morning the lights are on maybe 30% of the time and I have to turn them off manually. I bought this to replace an older model that failed, but the older model did not have this problem - at dusk the lights switched on - once, and off once at dawn. 2Works well, but be careful with the instructionsAn inexpensive and useful PiR (passive infrared) motion detector. It can be programmed to turn X-10 controlled lights on at dusk and off at dawn or not, and to turn on the lights whenever it's triggered or only if it's dark. The time the lights remain on after trigger is adjustable over a wide range, too.Note that all of these functions are programmed using only TWO buttons, meaning that everything is some combination of press, press-and-hold, and press-a-certain-number-of-times-and-hold-the-last-digit. It takes some practice, and you must follow the instructions very carefully. Also, The sensor can be fooled by light from the bulbs it controls, so be sure it's not in their direct light. Most important: This sensor uses radio-frequency (RF) wireless to communicate to a unit like the TM-751 Wireless Transceiver Module. That translates the RF signal from this unit to the AC-line signals that control other X-10 devices. This sensor will NOT work without some kind of RF-to-X-10 bridge. In our case, we used this sensor to talk to the TM-751, then used the X-10 signal from the '751 to control an X-10 wall switch. It sounds complicated, and it is, but it has to be that way, since the battery-operated sensor does not have an AC line connection itself.Still, it's very convenient. We have several of them to turn on outside lights, whether we're walking from the house to street or vice-versa.Recommended. 4Inconsistent results, poor mounting options, hard to programFirst off, my unit came with scratches to the front...used and returned? I am using this with a XPS4 quiet relay switch which controls 3 CFL porch lights that come on with the same single switch. I also have the TM751 so they can talk to each other. I have this eye programmed for darkness only, so anyone walking up to the porch will set off the switch and activate the porch lights. The design of this thing is idiotic. You can only mount it flat onto a surface with these tiny little screws with the holes behind the batteries. This unit needs an articulating mount that will allow this module to swivel so it can be mounted at a right angle or so it can look down a porch or hallway. Flat mounting it on a wall leaves little options. The detection is also kind of weak and inconsistent. It seems to like to kick on with an object 3 feet in front of it, but only 2 or 3 out of 5 times. I can't mount it anywhere inconspicious and still have it work. I have the sensor duct-taped to a pot about waist level, so anyone walking up to the door should set it off. About 10 years ago I bought a 2 peice motion detector and light switch system from another company that was flawless, everything this should be but without the additional transmitter (TM751). This system does not even meet minimum expectations and I just wasted $70+ trying to make what should be a simple process work. Maybe as part of a larger system X10 works, but the motion sensor for me is a dud. 2Very reliable, mature technologyWe use these at the Roads and Rails Museum to turn trains on/off depending on whether or not they are being watched by visitors. Very reliable, as it should be since it is a very mature technology. Not digital and needs a reasonable range but works great for us. PS don't mount them low or people will push in the sensor thinking it is a button! 5Poorly designed and poorly built. A piece of junk. The "X10 MS16A ActiveEye Wireless Indoor/Outdoor Motion Sensor" is poorly designed and poorly built. The programming is difficult. Whenever it loses power it will have to be reprogrammed. It uses only 2 tiny AAA batteries so I suspect this will be often. They should have used analog switches like their other devices. So, every time the batteries run out, I will have to get on a ladder, unscrew it, replace the batteries, and reprogram it.Plus, I was charged for shipping it back.I wish X-10 would start making their previous wired motion sensor with floodlights again (with analog programming). 1Good Product Supporting X10I gave it only 4 stars because this is my second purchase in 4 years. The first one deteriorated in the outdoor sunlight. But I did have it since 2015.You have to keep your wits about you to program it, as it involves how many pushes of a button you make an how many times a light blinks. It does its job as advertised, however. I have it controlling my outdoor porch lighting. It connects to the radio unit inside the house which sends the X10 signal through the wiring to the X10 light switch. I used heavy double sticky tape to mount it on the outside wall. The batteries have lasted over a year. 4
