    The perfect dorm or kids' room light This Newhouse Lighting LED lamp is the perfect dorm or kids' room light. Unfortunately, I don't entirely mean that as a compliment. Let me explain ...Pros:+ The lamp gets the light right. The light is smooth, thanks to the diffuser over the LEDs.+ The 3000K light is a nice color - "bright warm light" as it says on the box.+ It's about the right brightness for a close-up lamp - 300 lumens which is about the equivalent of 30 watts of incandescent. And as an LED, it doesn't get hot, and doesn't warm you up.+ The clamp holds very well.+ The neck of the light is strong enough to stay in any position you bend it. So it can be used in almost any configuration.Issues:- The switch for the lamp is on the cord, about 6" down. So depending on where you have it, you may be fishing around behind or beside the furniture it's attached to, trying to find the switch.- The clamp seems to work well, but it's such a prominent feature (4.5" D x 3" W) they should have given some thought to making it more attractive.Also, to me it would have been nice if the neck were a color other than silver - say, the same color as the head of the lamp. But that's a matter of personal taste.Overall, it could be easier to use the switch and the lamp could be more attractive. The lamp head itself looks good, the neck less so, the clamp not so much. So, it's the perfect dorm room light, but a little less perfect in another setting.Luckily, you can decide for yourself about the looks, and think about whether having the switch on the cord will work for you. The light functions well and works better in a number of respects than other similar lights.The clamp is about 1" deep and 3" wide, if you're trying to judge whether it will attach where you want the lamp to attach.UPDATE November 2015: I'd still assess the lamp just as I described. I still don't love the clamp (though it is very strong). But for the right use, it's a great lamp - so I'm raising the rating from 4 to 5 stars. I want to emphasize two things:1) The light from this lamp is very nice, especially compared to other LED lights. They really got the light right. It's a nice, bright, warm color. It's very smooth. The bulb is a single, glowing, lit surface - not an annoying row of bright, distracting LEDs like so many other lamps.2) The neck is very good at bending into many useful shapes, and holding in place.I liked this enough that I bought another one for our kids room. 5Five Stars Perfect light for reading! Easy to use! Easy to assemble! Does what it says! 5Great while it works. I ve now bought four of these lamps for my kids to use as reading lights. Only be of them is still working. In fairness, we ve had them for going on two years and my kids no doubt treat them less than carefully.All three broken ones have had the same issue- the connections to the switch box become loose, the lights goes off intermittently and then eventually stops completely.There doesn t seem to be a wAy to open the switch box to try and fix it without destroying the unit.It s s shame, I really like the lights but is two years of use at this price point a good deal? First I was a bit worried about some answered questions which stated that the light temperature is rather on the cool side, but I am pleasantly surprised. It has a nice natural shine and is perfectly suited for reading in bed or working at the desk. I have included a photo taken from the box that shows the color chart, and I agree with their statement. What I also like is that their included adapter has an input range from AC100-240V so that with a cheap adapter plug this lamp can also be used for traveling abroad. It is small enough for any suitcase. I am just thinking about the usually dim illumination of hotel vanities etc. The very sturdy goose neck is pretty long which allows to focus your light on otherwise hard to reach places. Great. 5The best work light I can't say enough good about this product. I have a workshop where I do precise shaping of wood and tooling of leather. While the lighting in my workshop is adequate for most tasks, when I need to get a close look at my progress as I work, I need a strong, direct light as my eyes aren't what they used to be. I had used a desk lamp but it took up valuable work space on my bench and always seemed to be in the way. I bought two of these lights, one of which I clamp to the shelf above my bench, pointing down towards the work surface. The light is bright and the flexible goose neck allows me to move it to whatever position I need. The other light I mounted on my drill press where it again allows me to see my work very closely.The overall quality of the material and the use of a strong, flexible goose neck make it an excellent work light. The clamp alleviates the problem of using work space for a desk top lamp and the position of the switch on the power cord all make this a great work light. I couldn't improve on the design if I tried. 5Works great Just like you think it works. Puts light, right where you'd like it, without having to hold it as long as you provide the correct perch for witch it can be attached. Pictures show light from only the lamp for which I'm bored enough to write this review. 5It's amazing to me the kinds of things some people complain ... There's not much to add to the other positive reviews. It's amazing to me the kinds of things some people complain about. Reviewers who've complained about the fact that the LED "bulb" isn't replaceable don't understand LED lighting. LED lights aren't like incandescent light bulbs. You have to buy an LED module and for this lamp the cost of a module would be close to, if not exceed, the cost of the lamp. And the lamp head would have to be heavier and more complex (and thus more expensive) in order to accommodate replaceable modules. The average LED should last 50,000 hours, so if you have it on for 8 hours per day, 365 days per year, it should last about 17 years. Considering the cost of the electricity saved, that seems like a great bargain to me. 5Powerful, efficient and versatile lamp I needed a lamp to get next to my bed for night reading and one I could also use when I read in my La-Z boy. The small lamps that attach to the book are clumsy, light a small area and only work with hardcover books. This lamp was perfect.The lamp is a little bigger than what it looks like in the photo. Stretched out it is about 22 inches long. I am uploading a photo with the review so you can look at its dimensions.The light is surprisingly powerful, surely will be sufficient for you. But it is also focused, so it won't bother my wife if she wants to sleep while I read. It is clear and powerful enough that I think it could be used for photography as well. It would be a great additional work for manual work like building a model car, woodworking, etc.The clamp is surprisingly strong. It also includes rubber suction thingies to help stick to any surface. The clamp opens to about 2 inches wide.There is alight switch near the clamp, which is very convenient. at 3 watts, it is very efficient, and like I said quite powerful light. The lamp seem well-built and looks good. Overall a great buy, I am very happy with it and I hope you will too. 5It's very hard to open all the way up and you better know right where you want it because once that ... So, I'm not sure what t think of this lamp. First of the cons. #1 being the clip. It is insanely tight. It's very hard to open all the way up and you better know right where you want it because once that mouth shuts good luck getting it open again. It has suction cups inside the clamp which make it even worse. That's a huge design flaw. It hurt my hand to open and I'm pretty young. This will be an issue for an elderly person. That being said, once it's attached somewhere, it's not going anywhere. Next issue if the cheap plastic of the head, and the light doesn't come from behind glass, it's clear cheap plastic also. I tested it and it doesn't over head, so that's good. Now, on to the metal neck. It looks exactly like the tubing they used to out on pay phones to cover the wire, Remember those? It's attached inside with a giant bolt. Very sturdy, but also not very easy to bend. It takes more effort then most lamps like this, BUT I kind of love the way the neck looks. It's very cool, kind of rustic punk looking. So, i'm keeping it and giving it a chance. It's getting three stars because of the cool look for the neck, but the horrible clip and head really must lose a star each. The switch is easy to use and is good quality. I don't know, maybe it'll grow on me... as long as I never plan to move it from it's current location. 3Great little light Great little light. I use this to light the prep area in my kitchen and it seems to be the perfect brightness. Very durable and well built. The head adjusts easily and stays in place. The clamp is also very strong. Highly recommend. 5
