I loved this laptop up until recently and after a quick google search I realize that I'm not alone. Something isn't 100% right with the SSD and is preventing the laptop from booting on. Works great, but not for very long. I've had the laptop approximately 2 years. 1the best computer/laptop I have ever purchased This is, quite simply, the best computer/laptop I have ever purchased. As a business consultant, I travel constantly and I wanted a laptop that would be ultra-light, reliable, fast, extremely versatile, tough, and looks highly professional. This laptop gets five stars in each of those categories. The picture quality is the best of any laptop I've owned. The laptop itself is extremely light--something that is important when you are lugging a laptop bag everywhere you go. The stylish watchband hinge is what gives the Yoga 3 Pro its magic, though. For example, while flying, you can unfold the laptop so it is nearly flat and props against the seat in front of you on the plane, thus allowing you to easily watch videos in an extremely cramped situation. You can put the laptop in 'tent' mode and place it at the head of a meeting table to quickly share presentations for a group. You can easily switch to tablet mode at a lecture and take notes with a stylus. The keyboard is great, with good travel/pressure on the keys. Feels 'quality' and, best of all, illuminates when you want it for low light situations.All-in-all, I can't rave enough about this laptop. The only drawbacks I've noticed so far (and I have been actively using mine for over a month), are: a) The volume is limited on the speakers. The volume is loud enough in most circumstances, but not suitable, for instance for playing music while performing other tasks and moving around a room. With headphones, the volume is fine. I recommend getting small, peripheral wifi speakers to boost sound when you need it. b) The built-in camera doesn't seem to be all that great. Not a major issue, depending on how you use the computer, but the pictures seem a little grainy. Not bad, though. c) Battery life is 'okay'. On a full charge, my laptop lasts anywhere from 4 to 5 hours. This is less than some other laptops, but in my opinion, a minor issue as I typically have access to a power source during that time. Also, these days you can easily purchase peripheral backup power sources if battery life is a concern, so it's an easy workaround.UPDATE: Since I first purchased this laptop just a few months ago, I discovered a MAJOR design flaw which anyone thinking of buying this laptop should be aware of. It is the battery and charging system. My Yoga 3 Pro functioned fine--until today--right before I was set to use it for a critically important presentation. For some reason, although the system reported the battery was 'in good condition', the power adapter was not being detected and therefore was not charging the battery. (I since went online and found that others have had this issue.) I had to watch helplessly as the power drained from my laptop and I could no longer even turn it on to attempt a fix. And, since the battery is inaccessible without unscrewing and removing the bottom plate of the laptop and thereby voiding its warranty, I could not even swap out the drained battery for a new one, even if I had one available. As a result, I had to call Lenovo Tech Support. The woman I spoke to was in India. She was helpful, to a very limited degree, but the language barrier was severe. More importantly, I should not have even had to call her, since a battery/power issue of this kind is pretty unacceptable for a computer that runs upwards of $1,000. This is a blatant design flaw--and a really bad one. Now, I have to send my still-new laptop away to a service center, hoping to get it back within the next few weeks. My laptop has a ton of valuable data on it and I really need it this week as I am scheduled to do several important presentations. I am NOT happy. 5The best one I bought it before Powerful, Wonderful, light, ultra slim .... etc . 5Great mid-range laptop! **Let me start this review by saying I am an IT Professional that works mainly with hardware so I do know a thing or two about a good laptop and a bad laptop. From the other reviews I've seen of this laptop, it's clear that the people reviewing it don't understand the difference between a good laptop and a perfect laptop (that you'd pay $1200-$1400 for). It may be an objectively 4 star laptop out of the box but it has lasted me over 4 years without a noticeable change in performance or reliability (something few laptops at this price point can boast) so it earned that 5th star.This is a very good laptop for a professional on the go. Very light, awesome battery life (I still get over 4 hours of use after 4 years). The screen has some minor flaws but nothing you wouldn't expect out of a $700ish laptop. Core M is surprisingly fast, obviously I would have preferred an i5 instead but hey then I'd lose a couple hours of batter life so it's a fine tradeoff. The hinge is incredible, arguably the best hinge available in a thin and light. 5This computer was great but on 2 year anniversary mark - the computer ... This computer was great but on 2 year anniversary mark - the computer completely shut down, no warning, completely dark. I had company IT look at it and they said the motherboard was completely shot. They also told me they were dealing with other customers with Lenovo laptops suffering from the same fate. They suspect an overheating issue. Should this computer have a longer life than 2 years? Disappointed. replaced with a DELL 2I buy it Dec 8th 2015 and in January 2016 ... I buy it Dec 8th 2015 and in January 2016 the laptop stopped to works I need to go to Lenovo costumer service and they change a piece and since yesterday again the laptop didn't works. It's a expensive laptop with a few time of live : (. 1Great walk-about machine for secondary but not primary system I'm posting this because I just went through the hell of trying to replace my old laptop. There are so many choices now, that this was a much hard decision that in the past. Hopefully I can save somebody some of the trouble I've been going through.I just got one of these to replace a 4 year old Samsung Series 9 (first gen mobile i5, 4 GB RAM and 128 GB SSD). I've only had the YogaPro3 for a couple days so this is just a first impression. Overall, my 1st impression is this is an outstanding computer. It certainly is better than the old series 9 in every respect; faster, lighter, better screen, etc.. I'm kind of shocked I like it so much, given all the grousing on the internet about the new Intel Core M processor. I note mine is a 5Y71 and not a 5Y70. The thing is snappy and punchy. I have no problems with speed or wireless connections. Although there is some bloatware I will eventually erase, overall the Lenovo software ties the 4 modes of the machine together really well. You can be working on a word document in keyboard mode, then flip the lid 360 and work on it in tablet mode (say if you just want to mostly just read for proofing). Keyboard is nice to type on too.Here's the thing tho: I have an ultra powerful desktop for my productivity work. I suspect people are unhappy with the YogaPro3 because they are trying to use it as their main computer. I don't have any expectations for this thing to, for example, run Matlab programs, or play high powered games, or do video editing or anything like that. These are chores for my desktop. However, if I need to go somewhere and take a computer with me, or need to just sit and read PDF files (I do a lot of that), then the YogaPro3 is perfect. If you set resolution to 1920x1080 (which looks perfectly fine) you can get about 6 hours 30 min battery life.Network stuff works fine. No problems with video streaming of 1080p content using the 5 Ghz channel. Movies look very nice on it. Sound is acceptable through the speakers, not great. Plug in nice headphones and it sounds really good.The YogaPro3 is very light to hold. This is what caught my attention in the store and one of the main reasons I bought this machine. When I picked it up, it was very comfortable to hold. This is as opposed to the new HP spectre 360. The spectre is a much better computer but is heavier, only by half pound or something, but it was nowhere near as comfortable to hold in tablet mode compared to the YogaPro3. Also, I held this on my lap (without a cooling pad!) for a couple hours setting it up. I couldn't do that with the old Series 9...I always need to keep it on a cooling pad with the pad fans running.Also, this is my first use of Windows 8 (it has 8.1 on it). Like most everyone on the planet, I need to do real work on my desktop and so stayed away from Windows 8 and am still running Windows 7 on my desktop. Since I don't need to do "real" work on the YogaPro3, it's giving me a chance to use and learn Windows 8, which isn't that bad overall (since I don't have to do serious work on the Yoga). Of course I immediately installed classic shell so I can have a start menu, which gives some grounding as I get used to Win 8.Finally, it is a really classy looking machine. It does not feel or look cheap at all. I loved the Series 9,but it's useful life is over. The Yoga3Pro is an excellent replacement for it.To summarize; if you are looking for something to replace your main system, this might not be ideal. But if you need a portable extension of your main system, this is a really good computer for that purpose. I'll post an update after a few weeks and see how this initial first impression holds up.UPDATE on 4-25-19. I posted the above on March 19, 2015. It's now been 1 month using this machine. I didn't return it, so that should tell you something right there! I ended up only uninstalling a couple Windows Apps I would never use. The Lenovo software actually works good on the machine. The voice recognition, and hand gesture stuff is pretty cool, if limited in its functionality, once you figure out how to use it.I've installed the main apps I need: Office, Photoshop, and Matlab. Office presents no problems at all. I can open 200 page Word documents with dozens of embedded high res images just fine, and edit it just fine. Photoshop loads quick. I don't use it much because, as indicated above, I use my desktop for high power tasks. However, the little I've played with it, it works fine for the basic things I've done. I was surprised that Matlab ran just fine. All that said, it definitely is only a dual core machine. My desktop is 6 cores, which really can spoil you for multi-tasking, but again, that is not my purpose for the Yoga 3 Pro. Just to push the Yoga, I ran Matlab and Photoshop at the same time, while installing another app, and the CPU pegged and the machine warmed up. So, this is definitely not a machine for continuous heavy duty computing.A couple other things. I love the touch screen, but hate the fingerprints. I daily use a microfiber cloth to clean the screen. That is all you need is a good microfiber cloth. It takes all of 30 seconds to clean it completely. Also, smudges on the touch pad slowly accumulate. I got a tip from somewhere that all you need to do is dampen (and I do mean damp, not saturated!) a cloth with soapy water and wash off the smudges, and then dry it off. This too works just fine. Of course I have the machine off when cleaning it.Overall, my first impression has borne out. As long as you don't expect this machine to act like a hexacore CPU with dedicated graphics, it will perform according to a reasonable expectation. I really love how light it is, and how convenient it is to use. Some people complain its not good for tablet mode. Maybe this is true if you have been using a lighter tablet all along. But I've had no issues using it in tablet mode.I will conclude exactly as the title indicated: this is an outstanding "walk about" machine to be used as an adjunct to a more powerful main system. If you are looking for an ultrabook as your main system, there are other great choices out there more powerful than this one, but they will be heavier. If you want a light weight, elegant machine that can do all the basic stuff, this is an excellent machine. 5Great Computer for a great price This was a steal of a deal for the price! With tax and everything we got it for $715. We bought it as a gift for my sister and she absolutely loves it. The tablet capabilities are a great feature. I would definitely recommend this laptop to friends and family. 5Check the out of the box BIOS version for needed upgrade! Would have given 5 stars except for the annoying issue of having to update BIOS within 2 days of receiving the laptop. USB ports would become disabled. I could fix with a power down by removing the battery. This had to be done in the BIOS because there is no battery you can physically remove. BIOS update fixed permanently. Since then the laptop has performed worthy of 5 stars. 4
