Customer Reviews

Strong metal wrenchThis is not actually the kind of thing I can say "I love", but it is a sturdy metal wrench that works well, when you first do the things you are supposed to do to before trying to remove the filter casing. For the whole house water filter, that means first turning off the water to the house and then running water inside the house for a minute to relieve pressure in the line (pushing the red button at the filter site, intended to relieve the pressure, is insufficient). Then the wrench fits around the plastic casing on the water filter (with raised wrench edges placed appropriately by the raised plastic lines on the filter, arranged on one side or the other of the ridge depending on whether you are removing or tightening the filter). Some such wrenches are made of plastic. This one is really sturdy/strong. 5Just what I've been looking for except...Totally useless. The teeth are so shallow on the wrench they slip right past the ridges on the filter housing, marring up the filter housing. So disappointing since I've been looking for a metal version of the cheap plastic filter wrench. I've gone through many of the plastic ones through the years. If only the teeth were a few millimeters longer this would have been perfect. 1Best water filter wrenchI have a well with a lot of iron and fine silt and have to change the water filter monthly. I own a Omni whole house water filter system. I've broke the plastic wrench that came with it and its replacement. I bought a strap wrench, but the limited space around the filter housing, made it a struggle to get a good grip. I had seen this wrench in my Amazon searches but went with the cheaper routes. If I had not been cheap and got this wrench in the beginning, I would have saved time and money. Now, I don't dread the monthly filter change! The wrench fits perfectly, is lifetime strong and they shipped fast! 55 x 20 water filter because the plastic wrenches are garbage and the handles just break offI bought this for the Big Blue 4.5 x 20 water filter because the plastic wrenches are garbage and the handles just break off. The fit of this metal wrench is very poor. The teeth dont match to the spacing of the ridges on the filter cover at all. Also the teeth on the wrench are so short they just skip off of the ridges on the filter cover. We can send satellites into space that orbit planet Earth, make the best fighter jets in the world, high tech computers and automobiles but we are incapable of making a water filter wrench that works or fits. Nice. 1YES! You want this.I bought this for use on a Pentek 150233 housing, this is the Pentek 20" Big Blue. This is the ticket right here! Don't waste your money on the plastic wrench, it will break. You'll be mad, possibly cry. This fits like a glove and offers plenty of leverage. I expect it'll last me for many years.Overall quality is good. Edges of the handle are sharp and jagged... yes, there went that 5th star. Whomever attempted to deburr at the factory should be reallocated to toilet cleaning. Seriously, look at your work. At least the working area of the wrench is A1, otherwise I would have returned. For the naysayers on here, do a little research before you buy. Superb's site has an excellent reference for filter housing fitment. You buy the wrong wrench and leave a bad review because you didn't do your homework?!? One of those "Participation Trophy" type people, huh. Put the big-boy tools down and leave it to the functional adults left in this world. K. Buh bye. 4This wrench is a lifesaver! My water filter was completely seized up and would not come off. I tried to plastic wrench with pipes on the handle for leverage, nope. I was searching for a belt wrench and some how got lucky and found this. It s way better! Solid and sturdy with a long metal handle for leverage. It s so good it almost pulled one of the 4 mounting screws out of the wall! I put counter pressure on and it was fine. Got the filter off first try! I ve tried other ideas and so have neighbors over the past month and nothing worked. This thing got it open like it was nothing! Definitely recommend and would buy again without reservation. 5The Only One That Worked!I have tried removing my "frozen" Big Blue 22" filter housing with three different plastic wrenches: all three failed. One of them, the last one, broke at handle, when I added a short pipe extension, as recommended, to increase the leverage. This metal wrench is the only one that worked. It is true that it can carve its way into plastic of the housing. Well, just drop it a bit or raise it a bit to get a new grip and, as I have learned, next time, don't screw the housing in as much as you can. Hand-tight, plus one quarter twist with two hands. That's it. Water pressure will keep it from moving / loosening on its own. I do wish the metal of this wrench was a bit thicker. But, so far, after a week of trying with other wrenches, this one, with its metal grip and a longer handle, was the one that allowed me to loosen the death grip of plastic. 5APTLY NAMED!I've always put off replacing my filter far too long because I knew what I was in for. The casing wouldn't budge and I'd wear myself out trying to get it off, usually resulting in a broken 'tool'. This last time, I spent half a day, with an an hour-long battle trying to remove the casing, breaking another plastic wrench, and then driving between two towns looking for tool that would work and finding nothing but the adjustable band things that are an even bigger waste of money than the plastic wrenches. I found this and immediately ordered one. When it arrived, I had the filter replaced and the job done in minutes, as it should be. I'll be changing my filter more often, now! Highly recommended. 5Great tool and much stronger than the flimsy plastic tool ...Great tool and much stronger than the flimsy plastic tool that came with my water filtration setup. Just be sure you order the right style filter wrench for the filter you have. I had to return one and reorder because the info provided wasnt all that clear as to fitment. I would 100% recommend this tool tho for anyone who does their own well filter service. 5No more broken plastic wrenchesShattered my plastic housing wrench and cut my hand in the process. This was the best solution I could find and it works pretty wellPro:Longer handle = more leverage to unscrew the big blue filter. Will not breakFairly pricedCon:The metal itself could be a heavier gauge/thicker. This would put more surface area on the contact points of the filter housing. This actually letft marks in my filter housing where it bent the plastic ridges a bit. 4
