Customer Reviews

Better than issued but not the best out there.I have had this light for over a year now and it still functions as a dependable flashlight. What I like about it is that it is easy to turn on/off with all of the turnout gear on and gloves. The flashlight clip is also very strong. What I don't like about it is that the on/off switch is multi-functional; there have been times that I accidentally (with gloves) turned my light on to strobe and blinded people on scene. There were also times were I had help the button down too long and got a low, inefficient, beam. I also do not care for how it holds or carries on my turnout coat. It has an awkwardness about it and carrying the light with a tool is not practical. It also gets caught on my SCBA all the time.3Great quality!Used in a few fires, it s more of a spotlight and will shine a long distance. The dimming feature is good to have for looking at electrical panels but it can be too bright for some guys still. I think the issue is its a bright white instead of a softer white light which is easier on the eyes in the middle of the night when we make calls that require us to take a look at the electrical panel and read which breaker to shut off. Nonetheless it s always good having any type of flashlight on you.5Same great quality as the Old Xenon model, but brighter light.I have used various Streamlight products over the last 24 years I have been in the Fire service. This alkaline LED version of the survivor light was perfect for my set of gear that I don't use on a regular basis. I can keep a set of batteries in the battery adapter, and put them in the Light when I need them or in the event I want to get the rechargeable lithium battery it will work with this light. The survivors are good durable lights and the LED updated model is great to have.5It's a streamlight... Streamlight survivors speak for themselves. Smaller helmet flashlights are great but I wouldn't be caught dead on a fire without my streamlight on my chest (12 years as a professional firefighter). The beam pattern as advertised projects wide and narrow at the same time. I had a rechargeable older model for about 8 years before the batteries finally gave out on me. I was skeptical of this lower profile model with an LED bulb (yes I was still rocking a real bulb) but honestly it works better than my older model ever did. I also like the flashing mode you can put it in by holding down the power button. I have used it several times on the freeway to help control traffic at night. Your can really get peoples attention from a distance with this thing. Bullet proof, water proof and it runs on AA batts I get from my department. Nuff said! 5Tried and true standard fireman equipmentPretty much a firefighter's standard equipment, but even better with the LED technology! This thing is super bright, the recessed and shorter bezel is a great improvement. So far so good.If I had any critique, it's the size. I haven't fully understood why the Survivor is as large as it is, seems like it could be slightly thinner body.5Great thrower, good "woods" lightThis is clearly a light built for emergency personnel and firefighters but it also makes an excellent spot light for walks in the woods or property line walks. Since the reflector cone is so deep the beam is ultra-focused and throws very far, very clearly. This works great to cut through the first few lines of trees to spot eye shine or in foggy, nasty weather. The clip on this is wonderful but also wide. It will not fit standard MOLLE webbing as it is about 1.5 inches wide. It does fit perfectly in a pocket or on a sternum strap and holds very strongly.Be aware this uses AAs but they are put in a carrier system so there are added dimensions. It is roughly the size of a 20oz soda bottle shaped into an oval so be aware.Very durable, very water resistant and a great thrower.5Great lightI have used different models of this light in over 300 working structure fires and it works great in all conditions. The pros: Very bright, cost effective, long battery life, durable, simple operation. The cons: when the battery is low the flashlight tends to shut off when it is hit by something. I have noticed as well that the low light setting does not work when the battery is low. After about 4 years of regular use the flaslight circuit board burned out. Im not complaining since I have put it through so much.5Best Flashlight in the Fire ServiceI'm a volunteer firefighter. For times when a flashlight is useful in firefighting, this one is the best thing you can have. It shoots a tight beam very far and narrow. I've used it many times. It super easy to reach up to where its strapped to my turnout gear and push the button to turn it on and off as needed. It's better than all the older Streamlight flashlights that everyone else in the department has.5Streamlight - Constantly ImprovingI'm a firefighter/EMT working below the Mason-Dixon line. When the tones drop, we go out. That means our equipment must always be ready - from our SCBA to our thermal imager to master streams to yes, our illumination sources. Streamlight has continued to improve its reputation for excellence with the C4 LED version of its classic Survivor series. Our apparatus carry older generation Streamlight Survivors on-board - rechargeable lights with xenon bulbs and rotating (rather than click) switches. The older lights are bright but prone to failure due to the shock-sensitive filament - one failed while I was backing an engine into the apparatus bay. The C4 LED has no such limitation.Second, the xenon bulb may be bright, but its illumination diminishes rapidly over any significant distance. The LED version has a spectacular throw that provides concentrated illumination over 100 feet away, easily providing secondary illumination for nighttime training evolutions. The polycarbonate lens is naturally resistant to scratches and cracking; the body is textured to increase grip while wearing gloves. The alkaline version of this light weighs less than its rechargeable counterparts, simply due to the reduced density of alkaline batteries compared to their nickel-cadmium counterparts. The light ships with 4 AA batteries pre-installed into the adapter pack. Continuous operation drains the batteries fast; with intermittent usage, I'm still using the originals one month into ownership. The only downside is the comparable size of this light relative to its diminutive brother, the Streamlight Polytac 90. That light (as tested at a few local fire seminars) outputs similar lumens with an identical LED. Critically, it is much smaller and weighs only 4.1 oz. The key tradeoff lies in the batteries - rather than 4 AA alkalines, the Polytac 90 runs on two CR123A lithiums.Streamlight does not recommend using lithiums with the Survivor light - stick with alkaline batteries or purchase the NiCad pack. In either case - I cannot recommend the Survivor series enough!5SUVIVOR DOES NOT WORK This is called a SURVIVOR Streamlight, but I have had issues with this flashlight for about 7 months now. I rarely use this flashlight that I keep on my bunker coat, but when I need it, it doesn t work the way I need it too. If I m lucky, it will flicker and have a very dim light come from it. Most time, it won t turn on at all. I have to tap the bottom with my hand in hopes that it will shine brightly. I thought it was the station batteries that are issued from the city, but I bought brand new Duracell batteries, and it has the same issues. I posted a video showing the flickering going on, AFTER I had to tap it with my hand to get it to shine that bright. Good luck with your flashlights, people. We have a very dangerous job and we depend on all of our tools to work how we need them, and expect them, to. 1Incredible throw. Solid light. I am not a firefighter but a regular guy. I purchased this light to throw on my pack so I can be seen while rucking at night. Like the dual fuel capability and am happy I got the rechargeable model. The built in battery goes for about 3.5 hours. If I need more light I simply change out the battery to the supplied alkaline holster. I purchased eneloop pro aa and they power the light flawlessly. The only part of the process in changing batteries Is pulling the metal tab. It's a bit hard so I use the spine of my knife to get enough leverage. Overall very happy with this light. Time will tell but it seems like a quality built product. Only gripe is that Amazon sent me an opened box product on the first shipment, however, they replaced it right away with new product. I have noticed this with some items purchased at Amazon. Other than that very happy with this purchase. 5Not what I expected and I'm a big fan of Streamlights The flashlight construction is very good. The run time is great, and the operation is very simple BUT people need to be aware that there is no light spill. You're only getting a small bright spot instead. For that size of flashlight, you better get some spill. In a pitch black situations you really can't see around you that much and you have to keep pointing your flashlight exactly to where you need to walk or move. Maybe I'm picky but I've tried other angle flashlights and they do a better job lighting up a bigger area. I run low voltage cables above drop ceiling and attics and an angle light helps me a lot. 3Firefighter approvedThe whole department uses them after I bought mine! Excellent choice for firefighter applications5Worked flawlessly during a major storm I used this light while working in a rescue capacity during Hurricane Sandy that hit NYC in 2012. The Streamlight was the only light that performed flawlessly during the whole event. We had several bulky box style as well as portable "waterproof" lights that failed as soon as the saltwater hit them. This light was not affected whatsoever by the storm. It is compact, rugged, lighter than the others we had, and the battery life was great. The spring lever on the back kept the light fixed on front of my harness and did not break or fall off. It kept the light pointing forward at chest height at a great distance, enabling me to utilize both hands without holding the light and letting me see a good distance ahead. Large push button on top was easy to find in no light, and with work gloves on. When I think back, this light was truly the only piece of equipment that worked without issue during that whole event. 5Streamlight SurvivorI'm a volunteer firefighter in a brigade in the NSW Rural Fire Service, Australia and we have purchased 16 of these to replace our current Pelican Sabrelights. The difference between those and these is night and day, especially when used on our CABA sets. The brightness of these is fantastic and they appear to be built tough to take the knocks and bumps of operational use, with long battery life. The fact that they take AA batteries makes them a simple change in the field. I would highly recommend them to any firefighter. Two members of our brigade are full time firefighters with Fire & Rescue NSW and they have purchased them for their full time use and their colleagues are amazed so much so that they are now purchasing them.Edit 16 Sept 2013, unfortunately after purchasing 31 of these flashlights, we have experienced a high failure rate where the light will not come on sometimes. Of the 31 units purchased, 7 have failed in this way, mostly in emergency situations such as where we were using two to provide illumination for a persons trapped extraction. It would seem to be linked to the internal battery case as swapping cases solved the problem.I and my brigade are less than happy and have lost confidence in the ability of these units to provide consistent and reliable light, such that we are considering removing them from our CABA sets. I will get in touch with Amazon to see if they have anything to add.3
