Customer Reviews

Is what it is and does a good job. Just understand what you are getting. Basically, this is a solid 4 star product. It definitely works for what its intended to do. No one can doubt that. It will also certainly save you more $ than you spent on it on your heating bill. So why is it NOT a 5 star product?Well, because it's what is probably referred to as a "ghetto" solution. This is not something that you're going to love looking at. Just look closely at the top picture in the description of this listing. See how you can see reflections and variations and it looks like... well, that you shrink wrapped your windows? Yeah, that is the BEST case "looking" scenario. It's nothing close to being anything more than a temporary few-month situation. Unlike maybe caulking and/or applying weather stripping or such where you have something that could potentially help for all seasons (like brutal heat) and maybe years (especially if you don't open this windows very often), this will be removed the moment brutal temps are over. But you know what? It's cheap, easy and pretty quick. You won't do this to all of your windows, just the ones where you are losing heat. Who cares how your windows look in the deep cold anyway? You just want to stay warm and hopefully be able to afford your electric bill and this does that perfectly. Is it anything more than saran wrap + double-sided tape? No, not really. Who cares, though. You get a lot of wrap and tape and it will do its job until the cold is over. 4Go for Duck Brand Junk! The plastic in this kit does not shrink up as well as the Duck brand. Not only does it suck in and out with the wind but it's all wrinkly. I purchased this because it was a little less expensive but I regret even opening it! With the Duck brand you can tap in the plastic like a drum, this is like seren wrap! Go with Duck brand!! 1Best ive used so far! As expected! Clear!!!! Totally clear and awesome.. did the whole house using 2 of these kits and 2 patio door kits.Prior I was using the frost king for years.. was not happy with it looking grey.. would block the sun light and you would be looking thew the window and every thing would be looking greyish.. just what you don't want in Michigan with our long winters!!Wanted to try something different and read that the 3m product gives your a clear window and had to try it.. easy on amazon as there sets were 50% off! Did the whole house for under $50 and the wife was thrilled about that! There scotch tape seems to be good as well. Just make sure to clean the surface good first.. I had to still clean last year's tape off as I never had a chance to remove it. Sucked bad as I had to use a puddy knife and goo off (need good ventilation) and it took a good while.. cleaned up afterwards with rubbing alcohol.I stick the tape to the window frames so I can't trash the walls.. works great and you can tell it works as soon. As your putting it up the draft is gone! A night and day difference! So far nothing has came free from the tape.. the secret is to try your best not to crease the plastic on the tape as that would create an air bubble that will eventually free the plastic.. and after I attach the plastic I like to take the blow drier and run it along the tape to heat it up and press the plastic down onto the tape hard to create a good bond.Use the blow drier on the plastic to melt away all the wrinkles and imperfections in the plastic to make it clear! That step will take some time.Great stuff and will be buying the 3m brand from here on out! 5Recommend for drafty old apartment windows Just installed this on half of my windows today but there is an obvious difference. My apartment building is from the 70s and the windows are the worst. My bedroom would be ice cold with the door shut, while the rest of the unit was 72 degrees. The tape can be a bit frustrating while trying to adjust the film though. There was a super handy video from 3M on how to properly pop the cords through. All it took was an exacto knife and clear tape. Super handy to be able to adjust the blinds through the film! (Photo included)*I highly recommend buying an Exacto knife to trim the excess & some type of masking tape or painters tape for those tricky corners/spots where the tape can t hold well.Don t worry if it accidentally gets punctured because that excess film you trimmed can be used to patch! (Photo included)Overall, I highly recommend this product. I got help to do the large window shown in my photos but doing just half of it was okay solo. 4Works, but it takes off your windows varnish and stain too! It took care of our condensation problem with the windows but it also took off the varnish and stain on our wood windows! Very disappointed. The Duck brand did not when we used in years past. 1Affordable and Effective Insulation Solution We have single-paned windows. Somehow they're able to keep most of the cold out. But to give it an extra layer of insulation I got this insulator kit and it's really easy to apply. APPLYING FILM Firstly, make sure the film size you buy is slightly bigger than the width/length of your windows.1) Use the double-sided tape (provided) and make a border around your window frame (parallel to your wall).2) Unroll the clear film and stick it to the top line of tape, and carefully stick the left and right sides as you slowly go down.3) Cut off extra film, and cut off film around the entire window border.4) Make sure the border of tape has film stuck on it; we don't want gaps for air to escape.5) Get a hairdryer and blow hot air over it, making sure to slowly move it left to right like you're painting. The film will shrink and will be nearly invisible. Give it 2-3 passes; you'll know you're done when there are no creases in the film. That's it! That's how easy it was. There are different ways you can apply this on your windows, and this is one of the ways. YEAR ROUND USE These are great for winter and summer. That extra layer of space between your window and film is an extra buffer of insulation from the cold and heat. SUMMARY This is a very affordable insulation solution that is easy to apply and works year round. Recommended. 5Destroys Wood Finish If you have WOOD, do NOT use this!!!!!!! We have beautiful woodwork around our windows and this absolutely DESTROYED the finish when we needed to back track a bit to straighten the tape despite going slow and being very careful. My partner installs vinyl (3M specifically, infact) for a living so this was not someone who doesn't know what they are doing. Extremely disappointed that a product made for temporary installation would be so damaging!! 1Works great. Here is the trick Works great. Here is the trick. Don't unfold the plastic sheet; just figure out which side is the edge. Then tape the windows and peel the tape so the tape is all exposed. While still folded, cut a piece long enough to have a couple extra inches of the plastic sheet on both sides of the window. Take the whole thing and stick the side that is the edge of the sheet to the tape across the top of the window. Now all you have to do is pull it down to the bottom of the window. Pull the sheet down tight and stick the bottom and sides. It takes me less then five minutes to do a window and I don't even need to shrink the film because there are no wrinkles in it. Make sure you stick it to the top of the window straight, or make sure you have enough extra that if your crooked it will still land on the tape at the bottom on the sides. At the end of winter I will take them down, fold and store them for reuse next year. If you don't shrink them or at least if you cut them a bit large you can use them several times. You just need to buy a roll of the tape. 5This window kit has been the best thing we've tried and has made a noticeable difference ... We have a very drafty NY duplex on the water with old single-pane glass windows from the 70's...this winter, we've felt the 10 degree cold right through the them! This is our third winter now and we've tried all manner of insulation. This window kit has been the best thing we've tried and has made a noticeable difference in blocking drafts and keeping the chill of the windows out of the house. It comes as one large sheet of clear plastic that is easy to cut, apply, and re position as needed. Using a hair dryer to get the folds out also helps in reshaping the plastic, making it taut around the window (don't skip this step!) 5Lol have fun I m taking off 2 stars because the tape it comes with is absolute trash. You need to do the most to get it to stay up.One you finally get it to stick it s super annoying to install. I was getting pretty angry lolDo yourself a favor and go buy some double sided 3M foam mounting tape and you ll avoid all frustration. I promise. I m lucky I had some on hand or I would have committed some sort of felony out of absolute frustration.Good luck. 3
