Customer Reviews

Good sound quality, terrible comfort. The Super Lux HD661's are built with surprisingly good components, but their lack of band asjustability led me to return them. The interior speakers were tight against my ears and the cushioning around them did nothing to soften the problem. After 30 minutes of wear, the pain was nagging and lasted a little while after removing them. If the band around the top was extendable, they might not have squeezed so hard against the ears.If you have a large or extra large head, you might run into the same problems I had. I loved the sound quality, hated the comfort. Had to return them, they caused more pain than sonic enjoyment. 2Disappointed I had read a lot of good things about these online in terms of bang for your buck. Sadly, I am returning them because they are really uncomfortable and are not made for someone with a large head. Imaging hearing your favorite album from inside a garlic press and you get the idea. In terms of sound, they do sound good although the bass is a little less than I expected given the specs. Seems like a quality product but, for me, unwearable. 2I love these! Great if you're a student or commuter. I've had the Superlux HD661 for several years now and I love them. Superlux makes really nice budget-friendly headphones and these are my favorite. They're solidly made and are perfect for tossing into your backpack when on the go (they come with a nice soft red bag to carry them in). I'm not worried about them getting jostled and breaking like other more expensive / delicate cans.SOUND: Good! The sound is excellent for the price point, comparable to what I hear from $100+ headphones that I own (Bose AE2 and Incase Sonic). Hook these up to a headphone amp (like a FiiO) and be blown away. But if you're seriously searching for audiophile-quality sound, do your homework and look elsewhere.LOOKS: Good! They're different from the ocean of Beats headphones you usually see people wearing, especially if you're on a college campus like me. They're fairly big, but certainly not ostentatious. They have a nice glossy finish and if you shop around they come in some other fun colors. I like wearing these on the commute because they fit comfortably over baseball or winter caps while still looking nice. The headphone band is fixed in place and not adjustable in the traditional sense - size / fit adjustment comes from the flexible "wings" at the top of the band. I actually like this feature since I think headphones with expandable bands (like what you see with Bose, Beats, etc.) look kinda stupid and I always have to fiddle around with them to get the right fit. Consider what your personal preferences are.COMFORT: Your Mileage May Vary. These headphones are heavier than others. The weight comes from the solid plastic material these are made from. This makes them very durable but also gives them extra weight. You will feel this as you wear them, especially with the placement of the flexible wings at the top of the band. If you're someone who is sensitive to this sort of thing, these might not be the headphones for you. I personally like the way these feel and am not at all bothered by the weight. But others might be. They have a nice closed-ear design that helps block out ambient noise and the pads become softer as you wear them.If you're looking for an affordable, nice sounding pair of headphones with a different look from the usually options, give the Superlux HD661 a try! 5Uncomfortable, stopped working on the right side. Good sound overall, before it stopped working. They're very tight on the head; I would have hoped it would loosen up more over time, but I'm not optimistic given the sturdy metal frames. The head rest simply isn't a good design, with only the ends of the two "arms" supporting the top of the head. A "sling" type would be much better. This is all irrelevant because the right side just stopped working after ten days. I don't know whether to bother going for a return or just throw it out, this is just irritating. The crummy $20 headphones I got four years ago work just fine. 1very pleased I read about these headphones on headfonia's website review. I ended up ordering a pair for my brother because I didn't really need a pair... I have a few pairs of Sennheisers (HD-280pro, PX100-ii, PX200-ii, CX200 earbuds, and had the PX100s) and another AKG K99... what can I say, I'm a sucker for <$100 headphones. So although I can't compare them to the Sony's that they're often compared to, I will say I listened to them, loved them and ended up buying a pair for myself. The fit is very comfortable (I have a big head, and the HD-280pros hurt after awhile) and physically they feel good and not cheap. They sound awesome, definitely a brighter sound compared to Sennheiser's darker sound, and can definitely benefit through a headphone amp.I suppose these are more aimed against the Beats portable headphones though, seeing that they're offered overseas in multiple colors. From my experience with Beats, they're overpriced and they colorize the sound quite a bit making them poor monitoring headphones. Personally, even though I'm not using the HD661s for monitoring, I prefer a more accurate sound even for casual listening. For only $40, no brainer. Get these. And while the other reviewer says these sound exactly like $50 headphones... I disagree. The AKG K99 are $50 headphones. The PX100-ii are $50 headphones (that I love, but the build quality is fragile, evident by the PX100s that broke on me and countless other people). I would argue these sound like $75-$100 headphones. 5Great for portable, closed ear use Audiophiles stay away. This headphone is by no means perfect, but for its price and intended use I think it performs great. Because it is closed back and $40, its frequency response and sound quality aren't amazing; that being said, for $40 it is probably the best closed back headphone you can find. Superlux does an amazing job at replicating expensive headphone designs and sounds. If you are looking for a headphone that you can listen good music or game with at home, this isn't it. Get a pair of open-back headphones for that unless you absolutely can't have people hearing what you are, they will always sound better, period. But if you're like me and are looking for a pair of headphones to bring with you when you go out, these are perfect. They passively isolate sound well, have a low impedance so you don't need to bring an amp with you wherever you go, fit the head snugly so they won't fall off when walking, are fairly comfortable (I can listen for 1-2 hours before my ears get hot and sweaty), and are affordable. I would definitely recommend these. 5and was most likely just bad luck on my part Item received was defective, am in the process of returning with amazon. Looking at other reviews this doesn't seam to be a pattern, and was most likely just bad luck on my part, I would advise in taking that into consideration when reading this review.Left ear worked as it should, right ear was non functional with a rattle when item was shaken.I am giving it 2 stars due to the fact that the left speaker did sound great, but the fact that an item made it out of QC with only half of the item working is unacceptable. Now I do accept that the damage could have occurred during transit to my home. I may also reorder this item, If I do I will update this review with my thoughts on the item. 25 years and still going strong Bought these for my husband 5 years ago and they are STILL working. And that's with him blasting them daily and even sometimes falling asleep while wearing them. The only down side is that they don't go as loud as most headphones, so he is always having to turn things up way louder than he would otherwise, and when we watch TV together with our headphone splitter I'm just grateful I have earbuds with volume control or else he would deafen me because he has to basically max it out to be able to hear what people are saying. So that's why I took one star off, but as far as durability, they have definitely withstood the test of time. 4AMAZING FOR THE $ Amazing bang for the buck, recommend getting the FiiO A1 amp with this, budget cans for amazing sound. What can go wrong? Oh AND they're super light-weight and comfy, I wore these for 5hrs one time (I actually fell asleep), zero discomfort for me. Your ears can and will get a little sweaty depending on the person, but other than that I would say 5/5 recommend as a nice Christmas gift. Not too expensive, not too cheap, yet it sounds like you paid some GOOD money for these lovely budget cans. What are you waiting for?! Come on down and get some Superlux HD661's!!! (Rick and Morty reference...) 5Pretty solid overall, some minor problems but not anything too troubling I like these headphones. They sound great, priced well, and feel structurally sound. The plastic used is a little heavier than other models from other brands, though it by no means take away from how much potential these headphones have as budget-friendly studio equipment. The glossy plastic is kind of a fingerprint magnet, but it does give the "audio enthusiast" persona by it's rather minimal look. That being said, the clamping force on these headphones were much more than I would have liked. I understand that the plastic is quite rigid and durable, but the padding can only do so much to keep my head comfortable. I'd recommend changing out the pads to something else. The headband is also a bit uncomfortable as I am used to the regular ol' plastic and pleather headband, but it's not enough to warrant the headphones useless. The rubber on the headband does create a lot of friction with my hair, which can be annoying sometimes when I want to adjust them. There's also no adjustment straps on these headphones. While my head size is average, for people who might have a larger or smaller head, these might be a bit uncomfortable.Overall, these feel like they would last me a long time, and I'd totally recommend for the average person who has some concern over their audio quality and longevity. I would personally go for the 668B's or the 685's instead, but given budget constraints, these still do the job well. 4
