Customer Reviews

Poorly researched, lacks credibilityReading this book was almost painful. His "Examination of the evidence" seemed far from objective. He ignores historical documentation from G. Washington during his first Presidency, and the entire first Congress, stating that the United States "is not a Christian Nation" and makes unsupported claims about G. Washington, Jefferson, and Franklin to support a dubious theory. He cites several State Constitutions as "evidence" that we were a Christian nation, but I think it clarified what the Founding Fathers had to do to unify the nation, get the repressive religious element out of the United States Constitution to make it work.Mr. McDowell uses Christmas and Easter as examples of how the nation celebrates the Christian faith, ignoring the historical fact that Christmas is based on a Pagan Holiday, was illegal in most of the original Colonies, and Easter was also banned, because it was based on a Pagan holiday honoring the God of Fertility (hence the egg, a symbol of fertility or renewal.)The Sabbath was copied from the Pagans as the day to honor their Sun God (Sunday) as the source of life.Almost every holiday Christians celebrate is taken from a Pagan Religion. Maybe Thanksgiving, and then the Christians killed the indians who helped them make it through the winter.I believe an objective research will show the information presented in this book to be misleading, partial truths, and useless as a reference for serious writers. 1
