Customer Reviews

I liked that this has both the 1/2" and 3/4" in ... While I only needed the 1/2" pex for now, I liked that this has both the 1/2" and 3/4" in case I need it. It was nice that it came with some crimp rings so I didn't have to get those as well. The cutter also worked well. The only thing that was so-so was the go, no-go gauge. You have to make sure you put it on straight, if it's tilted slightly you may think you haven't crimped it enough. But if you take your time, it works well. 5Great deal!!Perfect right out of the box! Checked my crimps along the way and all are in spec with the guage provided! Easy to use, nice compound action providing less hand and wrist fatigue while using them. Tube cutter is really nice as well, sharp and sturdy. In the market for a set look no further, I plumbed a whole house out of the box with no problems!5Did the job, but not a joy to work with This tool is ok. This is hard to explain, but when the jaws are open and your trying to slip them over the ring to complete a press, they seem to not be free running without extra prying pressure to open/spread the two handles. So I found myself straining my hands to get the handles spread apart enough to make the jaws lose and open, while manually trying to spread the jaws, and not disturb the location of the lose ring. This is only a frustration when your in tight spot. Im not sure if you follow me, I think I am saying sometimes you need three hands. Admittedly this is my first DIY pex project, so I m sure I m not as efficient as the pro s,but if your looking at this review, I ll bet this is your first pex project also! Lastly, the go/nogo gauge is useless. The tool showed none of my presses as a go. I had 75 presses for my project (remodeled walk in shower with 8 fixtures on 3 walls) and not a single leak when I pressure tested it. Throw away the go/nogo tool. So in summary, the tool did the job, but was not a joy to work with. 4Used it on an entire job with every crimp being made perfect. The handles are too short to get any ...Decent tool. Well built. Used it on an entire job with every crimp being made perfect. The handles are too short to get any leverage. My wife and daughter could not get enough power behind it to crimp. My hands are on the smaller side and it took everything I had to get enough power behind them to crimp. If the handle design was a little different, these would be 5 star crimpers.I also wish they would have come in a case. Cheaper crimpers have a cheap blow molded case to store these in. These come in a cardboard box.3Quality toolsVery sturdy, adjustable crimp, came with crimp gage, pipe cutter worked better than expected with its pointed blade versus some straight bladed ones. Tools crimp well, but be prepared to need a good solid grip and squeeze. I recommend longer handled models for folks with little arm and hand strength.I'm a home owner and not using them everyday. For the project I needed them for and any future work they're perfect.5Buyer BewareThe 3/4 inch crimper I received was machined incorrectly. The crimp opening was approx 22mm and needs to be 24mm to clamp a pex ring.1Great for hard to reach areasThe offset head was very useful for getting into tight places to prevent having to cut larger holes in the Sheetrock. They were well worth the money while replumbing a house that had polybutylene pipe and needed to be replaced with Pex. Definitely recommend these!5Works great, but maybe I would have done a few things differently. I bought this to work on a plumbing update where I am removing all the galvanized and replacing with PEX. I got a Viega Manabloc as part of the project as well. Let me start off with the good, the cutter is sharp and true for cutting both 1/2" & 3/4" PEX. The crimper makes excellent crimps I have not had a problem with a single crimp I made that was properly placed. Getting a bunch of free crimps too was nice. Now let me go to the negatives. First of all if I was buying again I would have opted for Two crimpers, one for 1/2" & another for 3/4" mainly because in my case some of the places I had to crimp were a bit tight and having the extra large head to accommodate two sizes does not help the matter. I also think a single crimper might have worked better from the standpoint of being more of a one handed operation. When you open the crimper the head does not open wide enough to clear the pipe, I physically must use my second hand to open the jaws of the crimper to provide enough clearance to put the crimper over the pipe and the crimp. Maybe there is an adjustment on the crimper tool for this but it is not apparent and documentation is lacking. Speaking of crimps it could easily be bumped out of the correct position as the head of the crimper is so large; my solution to this was very simple as I took a bit of cellophane tape and wrapped it around the pipe and crimp so it stayed in the correct location. I could then move (using both hands) the crimper on top of the crimp in the correct position. As I mentioned earlier I have not had a bad crimp since I started using this method. 42 Pex CrimperLike that the 1/2" & 3/4" Crimping tools are separate, makes it smaller than the combination Shark Bite crimping tool. Now I can get into tight areas as it's not bulky & it's lighter. The price was a few bucks more but you get that cutter so it's more than worth it. A must for replacing tub/shower valves in existing walls. Pex tubing is the way to go on this kind of repairs.5I thought you'd be bigger ( Bad movie reference) Receiving the package, I was surprised this was so small. My concerns were realized when I tested it on 3/4" PEX. I am not a small/weak guy, but was very tough to crimp. It is a combination of how short the tool is at 11 1/2", how wide the handle is when crimping, but also the awkwardness of the handle angles. It just does not allow you to get a good grip, requiring two hands. again, per the awkwardness of design and short grips and reduced leverage, it is tough even with two hands. Some reviewers indicated it did not open wide enough to go over the ring, and while awkward, it does in fact clear it, you can figure it out in a few seconds. It seemed to crimp finel, but per the awkwardness and difficulty, it gives me pause. The nogo gauge said it was fine, but it was a test and did not test water. If you had to do 1 or 2 connections, then this covers the cost of a plumber and may be good to have in your tool chest for emergencies. But if you are thinking about doing a modest renovation requiring 20 or so connections, it pays to spend $20 more for the IWISS 1807. With that, tool length is 15 1/2", with just one crimp location that affords easier usage, and more confident crimps. It also has a removal tool in the event you make a bad crimp. Removing the ring/PEX with standard tools is tough.I would have given this 1 stars because the one I received was so difficult to apply enough pressure to crimp, and even with the go/nogo tool, it makes you wonder how good of job it does. I also think if you use it consistently, you will have more failures in crimping, which means you are wasting rings and or connectors. I do woodworking as a hobby, used to be as a profession, so quality tools are important, with the ruggedness, quality and sureness to be confident in the final result. This tool does not afford that confidence in any way for me, at least for 3/4" rings. In that regard, it seems so many people appear happy with this, so I have to wonder if I just received a bad tool. So, giving the benefit of the doubt, I will give 2 stars rather than just 1. Ultimately this tool is just not large enough, and sure enough for me to entrust critical plumbing where a leak could cost thousands and ruin all the cabinets, doors and other items I just spent a lot of time to build. Let's face it, if you are doing it yourself, you are saving immense money that is recovered, so spending another $20 on a better tool is warranted. I fought this decision prior to buying it, but per all the great reviews here, I gave it shot. Oops...To summarize, if you are using this as an emergency repair tool, then it is probably fine. Use it to any consistency and it is just not worth it. The F1807 tool also in my pic for another $20 adds a removal tool, and is just so much easier to use, gives great solid feedback when crimped and very fast. If you are just trying to save $20 now, then save yourself an embarrassing bruise on your forehead from smacking yourself. Where this smaller tool is 1-2 stars, the F1807 is a solid 5 and gives much more confidence in crimps. It only takes one failed crimp using the angled smaller tool for the F1807 to pay for itself... 2Well worth the buy!I redid my house in Pex. I was a bit skeptical regarding their short handles, but fear not, they work well. I use one hand on the 1/2" crimps, but lacked the hand strength to one hand the 3/4" crimper. I like that they fit into a standard 16" on center set of studs or joists. Well made, needed no adjustments and crimp consistently. If you need some extra leverage to pull the handles, cut some pvc pipe and slip over the handles to give you extra leverage for hard to squeeze areas.Tip: To open the jaws to place around pipe, hold one handle and yank back on the other handle to spread the jaws.5good for tight spacesI got this set to replace the ones I got at The Home Depot. This set is so much better, I can get into small spaces that I couldn't get into with my old ones. It took me a bit of time to get used to pulling back the handle to open the jaws.5Terrific deal works perfect Holy cow, what a good deal! This set cost about half what just the crimping tool by itself cost at Lowes. GREAT DEAL, and exactly what we needed. 5Quality SetNice crimpers, smooth operation and proper crimpnout of the box. Used to have the blue and red handled set sold on here but these feel noticeably better and have a better fit and finish.5Highly recommendThis set works so well that I ordered a second set. Compared to the higher priced set sold at my plumbing supplier these are easier to use and when the crimps are checked with the gauge they are crimped perfectly. This entire set cost about the same as just one of the 1/2" from my supplier. Also, the cutters are the smoothest cutting of any cutters that I have found; I ordered four additional cutters for my crews.5
