Customer Reviews

Great drop in replacement for original Xbox This fan does require a small modification to the hard drive and DVD drive housings (I also clipped 2 of the screw mounts on the fan for good measure) but it s a much better and quieter fan than the one originally in the unit. I also used some 3M double sided adhesive on the bottom and small zip ties on the top of the fan and the wire, so if you re looking to do the same swap I would suggest getting some good quality skinny zip ties. 5The best and quietest fan I had a cpu fan that made very loud noise. it was starting from silence , then gradually as computer got warmer, the fan started to get loud, to the point that you thought what is wrong with the computer. I by accident had my finger close to that fan and one of the blades broke , so I needed a replacement.when the Nexus fan arrived ,after installing it on the cpu heat sink, and starting the computer, WOW. I could not believe it. very quiet ,and very efficient. I still can not believe it, What a difference. The fan does not come with screws, and also it is thick, meaning it is 70x70 x 25mm, so 25 mm is a kind of thick. To install the fan , i had to use 4 screws that were from the old loud fan, with a little bit maneuvering of the heat sink and the fan, but if you use your sense of creativity you will not have any problem. The fan pulls the air from the heat sink out, so it was not like my old fan that pushed air into the heat sink, but amazingly I noticed that this way of air flow actually works better for the cpu and creates a steady cooling. I play flight simulator , and this game requires involvement of cpu a lot rather than just the gpu, and still I can not believe that this fan very nicely and without noise keeps the cpu running very well.I highly recommend this product. 5Good and quiet CPU fan Although this is marketed as a case fan it works great as a CPU fan as well. Nexus has this in their product details for this fan: "These case fans are the same 70mm fans which have been used in the Nexus' quiet CPU Coolers."I replaced my stock Cooler Master CPU fan on an AMD heat sink with this fan. What a difference! Tossed the Cooler Master right into the trash. My computer went from sounding like a jet plane to barely noticeable. Have been using this for 3 and 1/2 years now and still very quiet. As others have noted it does not come with screws. And it is thicker than the stock fan. However, there is no need to run out and hunt for new screws. My 4 stock screws are indeed too short if I just try to drop them though all 8 holes in both sides of the fan body. But there is no need to do this. Just drop them through the 4 bottom holes by initially angling them in from the sides and then tighten them up with a skinny screwdriver through the top holes. Works like a charm. 5... "gaming" desktop from newegg and ran into the "sounds like a jet engine taking off" problem I think twice I've gotten a cheaper "gaming" desktop from newegg and ran into the "sounds like a jet engine taking off" problem. if I knew the fix was this simple and cheap, I would have done that long ago. replaced the cpu fan with this, problem solved.never had a problem with temps, so I havent checked in a long time. its roughly the same I'd guess, if you are looking for lowering temps I don't think this will do anything for that and you'd need an entire new aftermarket cooler. 5Good upgrade for original Xbox. Less noisy than stock, stable temps. I bought this case fan for my original Xbox, and I have to say, it is much much quieter than most stock fans. Removing the original fan is very difficult tho, and breaking a tab is almost going to happen if it s your first time and you are not extremely careful. I broke my first one, some epoxy and I was able to fix it. I ve tested this against several of the different brands of stock fans, and on full speed this one is way less noisy. If your like me, and buying this for your original Xbox, you can use zip ties if you d like, I do, but the HDD tray does put pressure on it and will hold it in place. I removed the corner of the fan with a hack saw because I didn t like how it was hitting the HDD tray, but I had it assembled before I removed it and it did go back together completely so this could be optional. When removing the old fan, it comes straight up, you can t unlock one tab then the other by wiggling or any thing, and those tabs do not like to flex at all. You practically need three hands to get it out with out breaking a tab, but it can be done. With the tabs in place, the fan kinda locks in better, but if you break one it shouldn t be a big deal. You could also go on eBay and get another console case if it really bothered you I suppose. 5Different Specs Between Fan Ordered and Fan Received I ordered this product based on the specs posted. I needed a replacement fan, and was looking for a 12V & 0.3A model. This one appeared to fit the bill, since its specs read 12V & 0.33A. The specs of the product I received are 12V & 0.23A (see pics). The model number printed on the fan in the product photo on Amazon is the same as the number on the fan I received. The fan did not work for my application. Whether it was the fan itself, or incompatible Amp ratings, I do not know. Unfortunately, I had already installed the item, and had to modify the connector to fit it to my application. Not double checking the product that I received before I installed it is my mistake. I just wanted to raise the flag that the item ordered might not be the item received. I gave the product more than one star, because I could not review the exact fan described. 2Nice fan, but I'd still avoid. Seems like a nice fan, so far (15 minutes) it is indeed very quiet. But I'd never buy it again, at least not until Nexus includes installation screws. As others have commented, this fan is about an inch thick, so there's a good chance your original screws won't be long enough. No problem, I thought, I'll just buy some longer screws. An extra trip to Home Depot, but I'm lucky that it's close and I go there a lot anyway. Hah! Good luck finding #4 x 1.25" metal screws! The longest they have is 1", and that doesn't cut it.So I followed another reviewer's suggestion and drilled out the top holes enough to fit a slender screwdriver through, and while this works it turns an easy 5 minute fix into a miserable 30+ minute project. The problem is getting the screws into the lower holes AND getting them to stand straight enough to get them started with a #1 Philips screwdriver. If you enlarge the holes, you still barely have enough room to get the screwdriver in straight, much less at an angle to engage a screw that is at angle. If you do buy this fan, I have three suggestions. (1) It might work easier if you have a #1 Philips screwdriver with a magnetized tip--I didn't have one small enough. (2) Rather than enlarging the top holes, if you have a Dremel, just cut off the tab; in retrospect, I think that might have made access much easier. (3) In my case the fan screwed into a plastic plate that snapped on to the aluminum heat sink. Just as I was tightening the second to last screw (which was now a bit too long), I realized that plastic plate could easily be removed to allow me to finish the assembly outside the computer. No more digging dropped screws out of hte MoBo/case!All that because Nexus is too cheap to include four screws that might add a few cents to their cost! Grrr! 2That worked fine. A side note is the original plug was ... Replacement for pva070e121 cpu fan. Mounting holes line up properly on the heat sink but is thicker than the original fan and it did not come with mounting screws. Not wanting to go to a hardware store and not having anything that would fit I drilled out the top holes so I could get a screwdriver through them and clipped the screws to about 3/8ths inch of thread. That worked fine. A side note is the original plug was a four wire and this unit only has three, but it is plug compatible with the motherboard so no issues there. It is working well at this time. 4Works great and fits in an original Xbox This fan works great as a replacement for my model year 2003 original Xbox. I found this product when I started a search for a replacement fan for my original Xboxes. Another reviewer for this product said he/she found it to work. After I briefly looked elsewhere about the dimensions for the stock fan found in an original Xbox, I ordered this product. Finally when I had the fan shipped to me, yesterday I took my Xbox apart and slapped it in. While I definitely recommend finding a way to properly secure and mount the fan's casing to the casing of the Xbox, I found that the fan is automatically secured by the plastic mounts of the DVD and HDD bays'. Unfortunately, when I removed the stock fan one of two tabs broke off. In addition, either the tab or the stock fan covers a hole underside of the Xbox case. In my circumstance, I applied electrical tape over the holes as a "band-aid."In addition, the fan is more silent at 100% use compared to less with 2003 stock fan. I definitely recommend this product or any equivalent to anyone and myself in the future as replacement in his/her original Xbox. 5New life for my noisy, old Tivo HD player The only installation snafu I had was that the motherboard has a (molex) two pin male connector and this fan has a three hole female connector. After researching this I found out that it's really not a problem at all. Just make sure you install it so that the red and black polarity wires are in the same place as the original and then you can safely ignore the missing pin for the yellow connection. That's just for measuring the fan speed which is not an essential function.I purchased this item to replace a very loud fan in my seven year old Tivo HD player and I'm happy to report that it now works perfectly again thanks to this very quiet fan. 5
