Customer Reviews

You DON'T have to be a GEEK to set this up on Win 10! On Windows 10 the installation is very basic...(1) Insert the Adapter's USB male connector into a USB-3.0 port on your laptop (also works with USB-2.0). (2) Connect the male HDMI cable to the Adapter's port -- I purchased the SANUS Super thin cables and they are superb --. (3) Connect the other end of the HDMI cable to the monitor. (4) Turn on the Monitor and reboot the computer. Worked perfectly, as the drivers for the Adapter are included in the Anniversary update of Win 10 released in August of 2016. Unnecessary to run the included CD. Unnecessary to Download any files or drivers. If only all add-on(s) were this easy. Both my monitors are 1920 x 1080 (1080P) and it's impossible to tell which is direct HDMI connected and which is connected via the USB adapter; the image is that good. Enjoy.NOW: Set up the Monitors. --- WINdows key | Settings icon (cogwheel) | System | Display | Customize display ---You'll have to play with these settings until you arrange everything to your liking. Enjoy. 5I couldn't be happier with this I bought this to add a second external monitor form 13' Macbook pro. Installation was a breeze. I ended up needing a newer driver which was available on Display Links web site. After that my computer picked the monitor right up. I barely notice any lagging issues which is sometimes common with USB display connections. I tried playing a video and it was smooth. I am running 2 27' inch monitors along with my Macbooks 13" display. I couldn't be happier with this product 5Good converter.. Not perfect but excellent for multiple monitors for the office MAC BOOK PRO - I used two of these and a Belkin thunderbolt 2 express docking station.. .. currently I only have to plug power cable and 1 thunderbolt cable into my mac and I know have 4 monitors running off my macbook pro retina.. I plugged two of these into the usb3.0 ports on the dock and used the thunderbolt port on the dock with cable to hdmi for third monitor plus the laptop screen (4 screens total) not the greatest response but I only needed it for work and visio's.. works perfectly.. and video quality watching movies is good..this is exactly what I needed. Not for gaming but perfect for the office. You will need to download drivers from their website for your mac.. but it was easy and installed instantly. I would suggest you download drivers first and run install package then plug in your monitors. 4Super Impressed and I Highly recommend this product. I work from home for a computer co and this product allowed me to run Dual Screen Extended using my Acer Travelmate Notebook's USB 3.0 port. I was able to run (2) Acer 29" Monitors, both monitors display at their max resolution of 2560x1080. I was concerned after reading some of the reviews but I gave it a shot because I have numerous CableMatters products that have not let me down yet.Advice: DO NOT PLUG IN YOUR ADAPTER UNTIL... you install the software/drivers via Disc or Online (it is the Display Link Software) and THEN plug in your adapter. I promise you, it will save you a lot of trouble and headaches. This product works exactly as advertised and can push 2560x1080 for those looking to run Ultrawide Monitors.Monitors I have: Acer B296CL 29-Inch IPS (2560 x 1080) Widescreen Display with ErgoStand.Photos show my notebook: 1 Monitor is plugged into the only HDMI port on my notebook, the other monitor is plugged into the USB 3.0 Port using this Adapter, with an HDMI cable.Video shows the smoothness in using Extended Dual Screen with this Adapter. I HIGHLY recommend this product. 5Connected monitor to USB I just got a new all-in-one computer with HDMI out but no VGA or DVI out and have two external monitors which have VGA and DVI inputs. I connected one monitor to the HDMI port but had to get this to connect the other one to USB. Then I had to get an HDMI to DVI cable to go from this device's HDMI to the monitor's DVI. Works fine. 5DOES work with macOS Mojave Version 10.14 with some adjustments After reading the reviews and researching the compatibility issues with macOS 10.14, I decided to go for it. I needed a second screen for my work and the only way to get it to work was with a HDMI to USB adapter. This was one of the few connectors that indicated (within the reviews) there was hope with my mac setup. Go to the bottom of the review to get the details of my fix. (I am NOT a techie, and I was able to get this to work very easily with a few extra google searches)Once correctly uploaded for my operating system, the connection works perfectly. There is no real noticeable lag - except on occasion when I'm running LOTS of screens at one time. I only use this for spreadsheets and other Office Products. The colors on my spreadsheets are perfect, even with my cheap display I use at home. The unit connects easily between an HDMI and the USB port and it came with HDMI to DVI adapter, if your monitor doesn't have the HDMI connector. It also comes with the CD with the drivers, but in my situation A. I don't have a CD drive in my laptop and B. I needed a few extra driver downloads to make it work.Yes there are cheaper versions (I highly doubt I could have been able to get those to work so easily) and there are more expensive versions - this was very much worth the cost for the ease of setting up and getting around the known problems with my OS. I will buy this one again if I need a second one. Here is the steps/links I used to set it up:As expected I received an error trying to upload the DisplayLink software, but thanks to another reviewer I found a link to a fix, but I still had one more adjustment to make. I couldn't find the exact article noted by Mark on 11/19/17 until I googled the key phrase "macOS High Sierra: Video functionality not enabled" - the first hit was the article on DisplayLink and I followed the directions.I then noticed the screen connected, but it was blank - not even the mouse function. I tried to download the software again at the suggestion of another site, but then I got the following message:"Displaylink driver can't be installed on this disk. is downgrade" - a google search of this phrase led me to another DisplayLink Forum solution (by Alban Rampon on 11/5/18) with multiple downloads depending on the specific issue you are experiencing and the exact OS. I used the one describing the black extended display(s) so one more download and Voila! Perfect!!The seller clearly notes on the description that this product is not suggested with macOS 10.13 & 10.14 due to known issues. I took a gamble after reading the reviews and seeing solutions. It took a very reasonable amount of time to find and download the additional drivers, and I couldn't be happier! 5This worked beautifully! After installing the driver it was literally plug ... Owning both a mid-2010 13" and early 2011 13" Macbook Pro, I needed a solution to connect multiple monitors to my macs. This worked beautifully! After installing the driver it was literally plug and play. I am now running a 2560x1440 through my mini DisplayPort and a 1920x1080 through my USB. I could probably switch them if I wanted to but since USB utilizes your CPU to power the monitor I used the lesser graphic intensive monitor for that connection. One thing to keep in mind is this is obviously a work-around which means if you are doing a lot of CPU intensive tasks you will have a slight slow down. However for day to day browsing and word editing you won't really notice a difference. Your computer will run a bit hotter though but this is normal and expected because the CPU is being taxed. Animations will thus have a slight delay but nothing too annoying. Overall very happy with this solution! And for those wondering I am able to run these 2 monitors in addition to my Macbook's 3rd monitor without a problem on both my 2011 and 2010 13" macs. 5Exactly what I needed, hopefully you too I recently purchased a new desktop for my office running Windows 10. I run two 2560x1440 (QHD) monitors. One in landscape, one in portrait. The new desktop had only one HDMI output along with a VGA output. Neither of my monitors have a VGA input and I don't believe it's recommended to run such a high resolution through an analog VGA cable anyway.I purchased this adapter to run the second monitor. It outputs via HDMI, but includes an adapter to output to DVI. There are less expensive alternatives that will output at 1080p, but I needed one that would output at QHD and this one stated it would.I run accounting software and typical business applications, again, at 2560x1440, the native resolution of the monitor it is running. This adapter works flawlessly. No flickering, no fuzzy lines or text. It works as if the PC had a second HDMI output built in. I turned the PC off, attached the adapter to a USB 3 port, plugged an HDMI cable from the adapter to the monitor and turned on the PC. It worked right away without having to install any additional drivers or change any settings. Perfect and painless. If you are running Windows 10 and need an additional HDMI output on your PC that supports QHD resolution, this works great for me, and I think it will for you too. 5Works with USB 2.0 and High Sierra - Make Sure You Follow Additional Steps I wanted to connect two external monitors to my iMac, but it only has one thunderbolt port. This seemed like a good solution. I was getting ready to send this thing back because at first I could not get it to work with my Mid-2011 iMac with High Sierra installed, but after some research I figured it out. My Mac only has USB 2.0 FYI.The new high Sierra drivers are out on the displaylink website. However, you need to take additional steps on their article under "Support and Knowledge Base" -> "Troubleshooting Mac OSX" -> "macOS High Sierra: Video functionality not enabled".You have to "allow" a privacy setting in OSX to allow the device to function. Now it works great.I use this for programming, not video or anything, but I'm impressed with how well it works. Some of the low-contrast colors are a little off, but that's fine. I run my terminal in this window. YouTube videos do play fine. There is probably a 10 - 20ms input lag, and the frame rate is a little low (maybe 30 frames per second?), but it's not even perceptible for the type of work I am doing.Very happy with it. 5Currently the only USB3 to HDMI device worth your money - at least for Mac users. The first one of these I ordered was Dead On Arrival. I sent it back and ordered a replacement. The replacement works... and it's such a well done product I'm giving it 5 stars in spite of the first unit being DOA.It's one of three USB to HDMI devices I evaluated; one was by Etekcity ( http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00F8OPKLW ) and it gave a decent picture but I couldn't get the sound to go through its HDMI output. Second best was by StarTech.com ( http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00612ZPQA ) and it handled the sound alright but the video in the Startech would shear every few seconds; it could not handle the bandwidth. Useful as a screen addition for programming or spreadsheets but useless for full screen video viewing. But when I plugged this device into a USB3 port on my Mac Pro Late 2013 (the black cylinder Mac Pro) I not only got a shear-free picture on the HD projector in the home theater, I also got what looks like 5.1 output through HDMI even though I actually don't have more than two speakers (see below). In the Mac's Audio Midi Setup app (the Icon looks like a little piano keyboard) I can choose "USB3 to HDMI" - a choice I didn't see from any of the competing devices. And when I selected it I was shown six (!) volume sliders for all the 5.1 channels. And sound flows from the Mac, through this device, through HDMI cable, gets converted to optical SPDIF by a Monoprice box and goes to the home theater optically and gets decoded into hum-free perfect sound there. After 8 months of messing with it my AV setup is finally doing what I want it to do. This part was the missing piece. Four sources (Two Mac pros of different vintages, one PS/3 and an HDMI cable to the home theater that I can plug into a laptop using this beauty: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00DOZHL82 ) go into a http://www.amazon.com/Monoprice-105557-Toslink-Digital-Coaxial/dp/B003L14WB8 and its output goes to my Epson projector as HDMI. But the sound is tapped from the selected HDMI and goes over an optical fiber to the theater where it is decoded by http://www.amazon.com/Digital-Optical-Analog-Converter-Adapter/dp/B005DIRI6I into powered speakers.Using the tiny infrared remote control for the Monoprice box I can select any of my four sources; sound is chosen along with it. Mute button works on all four channels. And I have reason to believe that if I had a 5.1 sound system I could make that work also. 5
