Customer Reviews

NO PARKING GUIDE LINES UNLESS YOUR DECK CAN ADD THEM. Good other than that. I installed this on a 2012 ram 1500 while upgrading to a pioneer head unit. The product feels sturdy and they give you plenty of cable length to easily route with working slack. Overall picture quality is good and it works well in a low light parking garage.TWO NEGATIVES (just be aware of these. they may not be an issue for you).1. No parking assist lines. This was not highlighted anywhere in the product info and many of the customer pictures show lines. Some head units can add these to all cameras, but my Pioneer AVH391BHT cannot so I do not have them. Other similar product offer an on off switch for the lines, but this does not. It is confirmed by the seller in one of the Q and A questions. I would have chosen a different option if I had known this, but after doing all of the install work I don't want to return this and start again.2. Not as solid as the OEM handle. They specifically say in their description that they match the OEM quality, but it feels cheaper. Like lighter plastics. I don't think it will fail, but just not as high quality as they describe.INSTALL NOTESFor anyone who cares, I've seen a lot of questions on line on how to run the video cable into the cab so I'll tell you how I did it in a fairly easy way that does not require you to pull up the carpeting. Luckily this company gives you plenty to length in the video cable (at least for my crew cab standard bed). I drilled a hole in the rubber boot in the fire wall where the main wire harness enters the cab. It is a fairly easy rout to go from the back of the deck down behind your pedals and up to that boot entry point. After pushing through you can drop stright to the ground then pass long the frame where the other wires are, giving you plenty of easy zip tie points to avoid drag in the wire. 3Nice camera, fairly simple installation. So today I actually got the camera working. It was a fairly simple install on my 09 Ram 1500. I routed the red and black wires to the drivers side backup light. Just have to remove the tail light. Red goes to white and black to black. I ran the video wire along the frame with factory wiring and then went into the cab through a plastic floor plug under the back seat and caulked it to seal it. Then I ran the wire under the carpet along the driver side, up the side and to the radio. Nice clear picture. Would recommend to anyone. One thing: I don't have a lock on my tailgate so it would be nice if a black plug was provided for the side opposite the camera. 4Good Very easy to install and the picture quality is pretty good. The only negative thing about this was the rubber washer around the carema was missing but that was an easy fix. I just went to Lowe s and purchased a washer to fit around it turned out well. The other thing they may want to improve on is the handle quality. The pin that runs through the handle to help it pivot was cut to short and it allowed the handle to break away from the unit. After getting a new pen and installing it worked like a charm. Overall I m happy with it just a few small design flaws that might want to be addressed. 4AWESOME Camera! Works great in my 2015 Ram 1500 w/Pioneer AVH-4100 NEX Master Tailgaters Dodge Ram 2009-2015 Black Tailgate Backup Reverse Handle with CameraExcellent backup camera for my 2015 Ram 1500. I paired it up with Pioneer AVH-4100 NEX. I bought TWO of these just in case I needed it. Though, I initially tapped the rear backup wiring as the direction suggests it, it did not work. I had NO error on my part (wiring). I don't know if RAM changed anything for 2015+ model or no, but the video would NOT turn on. Time for plan B: Ran the power wire from headunit. Bought a spool of cheap 20 awg wire from amazon and works flawless! Good resolution. Good night time image quality (thanks to super bright rear backup lights by RAM ;) ) . Overall very happy and please buy this. Super easy. See my attached pictures. Ask a question or two if you have. I'll gladly answer. 5Never get involved in a land war in Asia Bought this for my 2011 Dodge ram 1500. Hooked up to my Xtrons PB65WRJAP Head unit. Installed without much issues. Doesn't come with the 'reverse trigger' wire for the radio to switch over when put in reverse. So you will have to run an extra wire if your stereo requires it. Pulled the power from the Trailer plug outlet instead of the Reverse Light because my truck sends a signal to the lights to make sure there not blown. Which was causing static and picture would flicker. I was a little confused about the picture being oval instead of using the whole screen. Turned out the black ring around the camera lens was pushed out a little. Everything that gave any issue was easily fixed. Picture is good, Great visibility at night. Most bad reviews for this camera seems to be from people who didn't do any research on what they need for there stereo or how to install a backup camera. 5Great product - easy as advertised Product was a great match for the OEM handle on my truck. Good documentation, albeit, writing could have been a bit bigger for my eyes. The backup camera works great. The power cables are too short for my truck, however, easy enough to splice extra power cable onto it, I took the advice of another internet user and used outdoor underground lighting cable which I picked up from hardware store for $15.00 with plenty of wire to spare for other projects. This item, coupled with the PAC BCI-CH41 kit, and my truck now has a backup camera, and it did NOT require me to have the dealer unlock my computer which saved me $170.00. Thank you for the product. 5Camera Has Some Flaws - Support is Poor Install/Issue: This was installed by a professional installer. This camera connected to a Sony XAV-AX5000 head unit. The unit can provide registration lines but was set to default supplied by the camera. On day one the camera provided expected image. It was clear enough for a driver to see and supplied the left and right registration marks. On day 3, the camera began to fail. The image deteriorated and there was a black circle around the outside of image (see photo). This vignetting has gotten worse. I contacted the seller through their website and got a response back in 24 hours. They asked for my order number and said they'd get back to me. I have never heard from them again.Truck was returned to installerto have them recheck power, grounds, etc. All were measured and passed. With cameras it is pretty much it works or doesn't as head end only provides feed shown by camera. Verified this with another installer in town.Back in my shop I did a closer inspection on tailgate camera and discovered that the lens was allowing light in from around the fitting. This will create the dark vignetting you see in the attached photo. The photos supplied by other buyers should be the results you'd expect from any backup camera. The entire areas should be properly exposed not just the center portion of the frame. I have seen other reviews about pieces of the lens coming loose in other reviews here. Since this is a tailgate camera it will be exposed to shock from the tailgate being lowered and the lens needs a mount assembly that secures the camera from moving and provide shock when tailgate is opened and closed. The lens in the delivered product moves every time the tailgate opens and closes. The lens now let's in light around the mount and this causes the vignetting. I noticed several units by those that have reviewed that the mount is poorly fabricated or the quality control is inconsistent. Either way durability is in question. While at the installer, I looked at the OEM version on display made by another company for the manufacturer and saw their mount wasn't plastic but metal. The camera cost another $100 but understand better the importance of the mount.Next the camera fails in registering the lines correctly. The passenger side of he camera is off and there isn't a way to adjust it. You have to use your mirrors or you'll take the side off your truck bed or trailer. It doesn't compensate for the camera not being on center. Hard to understand as the camera comes mounted in the handle. They know it's not centered yet registration marks aren't compensated for this.In summary. Camera is what you'd expect. This unit is good enough if I only wanted to see if someone is walking behind the bed to get close to the ball on my trailer. But I need more accurate information coming from a camera consistently. I don't want to worry about pieces breaking off, camera support not holding up on tailgate usage and then having non-existent technical support.Invest another $100 and get something that will last awhile. Hard to see how this product is so highly recommended. 2Updated: So far it is fair at best. To start I purchased this along with the 4.3 LCD mirror. Took some time to install both on my 2017 Ram 1500. The mirror button on the Ram needed to be removed and the universal one installed. Once that was on it was just a matter of running the wire and tapping into the fuse box for power and remote for when the reverse lights were activated. So far it has only been on a day or so but it seems to be a very good quality item. Screen inside mirror seems to be good quality also and mirror feels sturdy. Handle installed installed within 5 minutes and wires run to the front for the mirror took a little more time trying to keep it neat and "factory" looking. I ended up having to pull power from my Trailer wiring reverse post due to the voltage required to turn the camera on. Camera requires 12 volts. My reverse lights output was only 11.3 on the multi-meter. Once i figured this out hook up was finished with soldering the wires inline to the trailer harness. See how the future goes and how it holds up. Hope this helps.Update:About 5 months in and camera is still clear although 2 out of 10 times when putting the truck in reverse I get back up lines to register in the rear view. The other 8 out of 10 times I have no lines just reverse view. I have learned to just accept this. I have checked all of my wiring multiple times everything is correct. Worked with the seller at one point to replace the camera they sent me a new camera it was DOA pretty much just gave up leaving it the way it is. The photos were placing truck in reverse then drive then reverse. As you can see in the first photo I have parking lines Place truck in drive then back in reverse I have no parking lines. 3Bench test it first! Ok let's start by saying, I'm not a PhD. But I have two degrees from the school of hard knocks. That being said, I was not impressed with the quality control on this product. The wiring gremlins this thing caused were the source of many days in the driveway tearing apart my dash. I couldn't figure out why it wouldn't come on. Turns out the wiring for the hot and ground had a break in the line. The lesson I learned here is, bench test! Make sure it works before you install it.It is finally working. If you are looking for a spot to wire it to use the trailer plug. The black wire in the middle is the hot for the back up lights. 32016 RAM 1500 installed - WORKED with factory 5" Uconnect - USED PAC BCI-CH41 Had a small issue with the camera. Contacted Master Tailgaters and they resolved the problem quickly, which in my book is the true definition of a good business. Any business is fine when things are perfect. It's when things go wrong that a company will show their true colors and integrity. Tailgate camera installed easily on a 2016 RAM 1500 and works perfectly with the 5" uconnect screen. I hooked the camera up to the factory 5" uconnect screen by installing the PAC BCI-CH41. I did not have to go to the dealership to get any programming done and the PAC also gave me rear video/audio inputs for a tv and also adding a front camera if I wanted to. System works perfect and both the camera and the PAC cost less than the OEM kits that you still have to take to a dealer to program as well. 5
