Customer Reviews

Good learning project I bought this kit for another electronics building project to do with my son. He located & placed the components while I measured component values & did the soldering. The build went quickly & worked when we were done. The resulting sound sound is nowhere near professional quality but my son had fun changing his voice for a couple days after that. I did modify things a bit by putting the speaker & microphone both on longer wire leads in order to separate them from each other to minimize the feedback squealing. 4Nice kit, works pretty well; but caution Generally a very nice kit & easy to assemble; circuit seems to work as advertised. They don't supply a speaker or wires, so when I provided some, I got serious feedback between the microphone & the speaker. Next I will try mounting the mic on some short wires & the speaker on some very long wires. I believe this will allow the separation needed to make the project work well. 4Fun project, neat sound effects Fun little project, easy to put together and modify. Took me about 45 mins to solder this together and it worked perfectly!Instead of using the built in mic, I installed a 1/8" mono jack so I could attach a lapel mic, and for the speaker output I soldered in a female RCA jack. 4Fun kit, if you have good soldering skills Fun kit, if you have good soldering skills. I was a bit rusty, and messed up the first one I ordered, but the second one, went great, My only issue with this device, is it does not remember your settings, and can be difficult to get back to, exactly, the one you want. 4Great kit for all experience levels. This is a great little kit. As stated in many other reviews for this product, you do require a soldering iron and a speaker to assemble this thing fully. The instructions, in my opinion, are excellent. They don't have much words or explanation but they make up for that with their very complete diagrams showing location, orientation, and proper assembly practices. One common problem I've read about this kit is the lack of volume, and while details on preventing this are briefly noted in the instructions, I do see how it could easily be overlooked. First is speaker selection. This circuit is designed for used with either a 4 ohm or 8 ohm speaker, if you use higher resistance speakers (more ohms) then you will get a much quieter output. If you want the most volume possible, pick a 4 ohm as it will give double the Watts of an 8 ohm speaker. Second is the actual amplifier circuit used. This kit uses an LM386 amplifier IC that has a hardware-programmable gain. If you build this kit as specified, it will have a gain of 50. However if you feel that this is insufficient for your particular application, do not place component R10 and instead solder a wire where it should be. By shorting R10, you will increase the gain to a much more substantial 200. (Please note that you MUST put a short in place of R10, if you remove the resistor and leave it open you will get the minimum gain of 20) 5Poor Quality While I found the directions laid out very well - the quality of the PCB is very poor. I am a EE and use a soldering station frequently. I have never seen solder pads pull away from the PCB so easily. I lost 3 seperate copper pads which rendered my board useless.I cannot recommend this product. Too bad as I really wanted this for a Halloween costume. 1Great, but has an unavoidable feedback loop. Great gadget. There is a small problem with the mic and the speaker (sold separately). The speaker signal may get picked up by the microphone and then get reamplified, especially in the vibrato and robot modes. Just make sure you do some sort of isolation for a long term project. I would recommend breaking out the mic and putting it somewhere away fro the speaker. 5Velleman MK171 Neat project, works as I thought it would, takes a little bit to learn button sequence. This voice changer sounds like the ones used in the movie "Fun with Dick and Jane" which is what I was hoping for. The only thing I would suggest is to use a speaker at at distance because the mic will pick up the sound coming from the speaker causing unwanted feed back. All and all I would recommend this for someone looking for a fun project. The only reason for 4 star rating is the pins used as audio out, I would rather the kit include a headphone jack instead. 4could not get it to work consistently; not worth the time 1 star because its cheap.1 star because the wiring diagram was clear. That's the end of the good. I spent 45 minutes wiring it together. I have decent soldering skills and all the connections looked clean. It would work fine one minute, then pop and crackle like crazy the next minute. It seemed to be in a random state every time it was turned on. The button functions seemed backward sometimes and fine at other times.I bought this in order to change my voice for a Kylo Ren Halloween costume. It sounded great for about 2-3 minutes, but I could never get it back to that state again. My advice: don't bother with this. Sure it's cheap, but its not worth the time and frustration. 2There is lots of good soldering practice here and no mechanical details that can ... A neat little kit. There is lots of good soldering practice here and no mechanical details that can give you fits. All the parts were there and the board is great quality. The only problem I had was inserting the 16 pin IC in its sc 5
