Customer Reviews

NOTE: Does not work with production switchersWanted to write this review for the sake of all of those people out there working on productions.I purchased this in order to extract the audio from an Apple TV that I was going to connect into the Blackmagic ATEM 1 Production Studio. Audio would then feed into sound mixer board. The system is configured for 1080p 59.94, and the the Apple TV is able to display the image just fine on the Blackmagic. When I introduce the JTech audio extractor in the HDMI path, things get really wonky. The display shows up but is flickering in and out constantly, so you can't get any solid connection. This happens for each audio option. Also tried plugging in a computer to the JTech and having that output and it is the same problem. I imagine this might work fine if connected to a TV, but it's not a solution for production environment. I'm not sure what the internals are doing such that it does not just pass through the HDMI signal, and so everything gets choppy once it hits the video switcher.I've also tried the non-4K version of the JTech audio extractor and it is the same problem. Still on the search for an adapter that will do what I need to do and have a true pass-through so that the HDMI connection is not affected.4Doesn't do what the average user needs it to.Pros:Works at 4K and 60hzOptical and Audio Out both output at the same time.Cons:Surround Sound does not work on a LOT of devices.I bought this to get sound off an HDMI cable. My setup doesn't work with an audio output from the TV which is why a box like this would exist. It is to get sound off the HDMI cable before it enters the TV. The only device that worked with surround sound off of the optical cable that I tested was a PS4. When you go into the audio settings on the PS4 you can change the sound type to Dolby Digital and the optical output on the converter will actually output surround sound. On every other device I tested it only outputted stereo so only my front speakers were working. I have tested this on:1) A high-end gaming PC with a 1080 TI graphics card. The 1080 TI can output audio off of the HDMI output. However the problem is that since this converter is an HDMI pass-through the sound output the computer sees is just the TV. It doesn't see the J-Tech device as an output which is probably the issue that every other device I tested also experienced. My computer saw my HDMI output to my LG TV as an output. Since the computer only sees the LG TV it knows the TV only has stereo speakers and so it forces my computer to only output with a stereo signal, so my rear speakers don't work.2) Playstation 4 - This is the only device that worked because the PS4 has an audio setting where you can force the output audio type to Dolby Digital and it allows the optical output from the converter to send a true 5.1 surround sound signal through the J-Tech device.2) Nintendo Switch - The audio settings on the Nintendo Switch lets you select Stereo or Surround Sound, but not specifically Dolby Digital or other types. So I could only get a stereo signal off of the converter.3) Xbox One - Same issue as PC and Nintendo Switch. Can't output a 5.1 signal because it only sees the TV as a stereo setup.4) Sony BluRay Player - Only outputs stereoAgain the main problem is that most devices don't see the J-Tech box as an audio output. It passes the signal through to the TV so the TV is seen as only a stereo output. Even though I have a 5.1 Logitech Surround Sound system plugged into the optical output on the J-Tech converter most devices only see the TV as a stereo device so it only sends a stereo signal. I even switched the J-Tech device to the 5-Channel position and it still does the same thing. Unless you have a PS4 or only need a stereo sound signal this device will not work for you.1How to connect ROKU to external speakersI have ROKU & wanted to get the sound from the external speakers. I have a Yamaha 5.1 home theater receiver and a LG television. I purchased the J-Tech HDMI Digital extractor that will extract the sound from the TV and send the signal to my receiver where the Yamaha speakers are hooked up. I contacted J-Tech customer support. They were very helpful and easy to communicate with via email. Nathon (the tech rep) gave me easy to understand directions how to achieve my goal. Here are the directions.Connect an HDMI cable between the HDMI output port of the ROKU and the J-Tech Digital Audio Extractor HDMI Input.Connect an HDMI cable between the J-Tech Digital Audio Extractor HDMI Output and the HDMI Input of the LG TV.Connect an RCA cable from the J-Tech Digital Audio RCA Outputs to the Aux Inputs of the Yamaha 5.1 Receiver. To get audio, be sure to have the Aux RCA Input selected on your Yamaha receiver when watching content from your ROKU5Solved my need for analog wireless headphone support through RokuAfter I setup a new 40" Samsung 4k TV in my bedroom last year I was a bit disappointed to learn that it didn't have analog (red and white RCA) plugs for audio output like all of my previous TV's have had. It seems some of the newer TVs these days only have an optical output, which would be OK if not for the fact that if you enable it, the TV's speakers turn off. So, rather than plug my Sennheiser wireless headphones base unit with RCA plugs to the TV, I had to connect them directly to my cable box's audio outputs. That works, however, that means I couldn't use them when watching shows through my Roku. Now that I've decided to cut cable altogether, which means no more cable box, I needed a way to listen to shows through my wireless headphones yet have the option to have audio also coming out of the TV's speakers. That is where this device came into play. I simply plugged my Roku's HDMI output to the device's HDMI input, connected another HDMI cable from the device's HDMI output to the TV, and then used a 3.5 mm audio Y-splitter with female red and white ends to connect my wireless headphones base unit to the audio out of the device. Works great! Now I can listen to shows through my headphones and still keep the TV's speakers on if I want.I may not have needed to spend the extra money to get the "4K" model, but I didn't want to take the chance of degrading my 4K TV's picture. Anyway, I'm happy!5This is a bad news/good news reviewThis is a bad news/good news review. After wasting an hour trying every conceivable cable combination to make sure it wasn't a bad cable for my Sony Blueray, I found this tip elsewhere and got it to work (of course, not in the instructions):Go into the Audio Settings of the Blu-ray player. Change the Digital Audio Output to PCM and BD Audio Mix Setting to Off.1. Press HOME button on the supplied remote.2. Go to Setup (ToolBox icon) by pressing the left arrow button.3. Press the down arrow button and select Audio settings.4. Select Digital Audio Output and set it to PCM.5. Select BD Audio Mix Setting and set it to Off.1Can you hear me now? Yes!I had a situation where we were showing a video of several interviews for a celebration of one of the pastors from our church. My blu ray player only had an HDMI output and the projector to which I was connecting it did not have an audio out. I needed to be able to connect the audio to a sound system in the hall where the celebration was to take place. I placed the order for the J-Tech on a Monday afternoon and the device arrived in good shape on Wednesday afternoon. The celebration was on Thursday. I connected the device in line between the blu ray player and the projector and took the audio output and sent it to the hall sound system. It worked perfectly. The celebration was several hours long. The sound was very clean and the video was top quality. This device saved the day for me. I am also very happy that it can do both 2 channel stereo, or 5.1 digital surround sound. It is too early for me to comment on the longevity of the device because this is only the first time I used it, but I plan on using it a lot in the future.5I was sad I really wanted this thing to work and it ...I was sad I really wanted this thing to work and it did at first I wasn t having any issues bought new HDMI cables because it wasn t having a good hand shake with the tv and the receiver. Then it started flickering which drove me bonkers thought my tv was broke. I know this says it support arc but honestly it has issues from the start on that . I only had it a week and then today it was having issues powering on and off. It supposed to be automatic no switch for on and off. Disappointed only 4K 60hz adapter I could find on the market at a reasonable price :( just wish it was better literally drove me insane getting it all setup and it is supposed to be simple but lots of communication issue maybe I just got a bad one in the batch who knows.1This really works and extremely well. Excellent, excellent, excellent. Finally, a black box that really converts and amplifies sound from HDMI sources, suitable for headphone usage! This device converts HDMI signals from multiple HDMI sources (via an HDMI selector switch), that was then sent to a 1-to-4 HDMI splitter and from there sent to 4 devices in an RV: 3 HDTVs and one HDMI AV receiver. The J-Tech device has a selector switch for pass-through and it was placed between the HDMI splitter and the AV receiver. I plugged a Sennheiser wireless headphone into the J-Tech device. It was loud and clear! The audio output from the AV receiver was unaffected (same as before). This particular setup allowed sound to be heard from all of the TVs, which didn't have ARC features, as well as from the speakers from the receiver. It allows me to use the headphones, which keeps my wife happy (she complains that the volume is always too loud). The sound to the headphones is in sync with the sound from the TVs and the AV receiver speakers. It works perfectly and is so easy to connect that you don't need the enclosed instructions.5Perfect for the Apple TV 4K 5th Gen!My setup is to output HDMI to my TV and Toslink (optical audio) to my receiver. I was really disappointed when the 4th and 5th gen Apple TVs failed to include an optical audio out port. HDMI 2.2 is very particular around devices used as a splitter. I had to try several until I found this one. This one works perfectly! I get the DD 5.1 to the receiver and full 4K with HDR to the TV. It s a very small, well made unit.5Awesome product, works great!Bought this for my Apple TV 4. Apple removed the optical out during this release, and my soundbar was suddenly useless. Someone recommended this solution and I m glad to say it works great! It restored all functionality to my soundbar with no degradation to my sound or picture quality at all. I know a few people reported their image quality dropping but I haven t noticed anything. My TV is an older 1080p Samsung model with no support for any modern features like HDR, so maybe that s why nothing was affected. In addition to that, the sound is excellent as well. I took out an older Apple TV (one that had an optical out port) and compared sound between an Apple TV plugged into the converter and one plugged directly into the soundbar. No difference whatsoever, at least to my untrained ears.As for the product, it s made out of high quality materials and feels very solid. It feels built to last and hasn t given me any issues. I was worried after a few reviews said I would constantly have to reboot my setup and that the Apple TV would cut out, but I ve experienced none of that after a week of using it for hours a day.Overall - excellent product. Suited my needs perfectly. Highly recommended.5
