Customer Reviews

Convenient little widget!! I used it to switch signals between my TV and projector and it is working like a charm, 3 weeks into the purchase. Let's see if it lasts long. It's a little pain to manually push the switch but i only have to do it once before I watch a movie on the big screen and once again, when I'm done. Not a big deal. 5A Gamble But If It Works Worth The Savings I really wanted this device to work for me since you can't beat the price. And it did work - but not the way I needed. My set up is probably unique - I want to be able to view the output of a Dish PVR (VIP612) receiver located in my house out in my workshop located in an adjacent building. Previously I had been using a Slingbox 350 to view the Dish TV from my shop. But between the limitations of the composite video input on the Slingbox; needing a PC or tablet running the Slingbox plugin/app connected to the TV, and the inherent Slingbox remote lag it was a less-than-ideal configuration. The prevalence of affordable HDMI over Cat6 extenders made me revisit the issue, and I bought the AGPtek PC000181-AGP1 as at about $37 it was one of the cheapest versions of the extenders that received decent reviews. The HDMI output of my Dish PVR is run into an HDMI splitter, so that I can also watch the Dish output on a TV in the same room the receiver is located in. I ran the other output of the splitter into the HDMI over Cat6 extender. On the workshop side I also had two TVs I wanted to view the video on - one is in an office and the other is in the main shop area. Both the TVs are cheap LCDs - a 32" Sceptre X32 in the office and a 50" Seiki SE50UY04 in the main shop. To drive both TVs in the shop I use another HDMI splitter. My Cat6 cable run between the house and shop is about 110 feet long total. The cable run includes two inline couplers as well. The AGPtek extender is picky about the quality and length of the cable it runs on. The advertised 60m cable length maximum limit (about 197 feet) is likely achievable only under ideal conditions and I suspect with the couplers my 110 foot cable probably effectively approached the maximum cable length for the unit. I had to replace one of my inline couplers to correct for a poor signal. But I was able to get a good quality signal on the receiver end.Unfortunately I found it worked on one TV (the Sceptre), but not on the other. The video was quite good on the TV it worked on, but on the other TV (the Seiki) I would intermittently lose the HDMI signal. The IR extender worked properly.I experimented quite a bit trying to get the extender to work with both TVs. I read that Seiki TVs can be finicky about HDMI signals, so I tried all conceivable connections including a variety of HDMI cables and an HDMI signal conditioner on the Seiki TV. I even removed all the splitters and tried unsuccessfully to run just the Seiki with the extender (Dish PVR HDMI to AGPtek transmitter to Cat6 to AGPtek receiver HDMI connected directly to Seiki). After hours of experimentation I never got the Seiki TV to work with the extender and a few days later finally gave up, ordering an AV Access 4KEX70-L HDBaseT HDMI over Cat6 extender as a replacement.Note that in the meantime I was able to view TV on the Sceptre TV just fine, including having IR remote (and thus Dish PVR control) functionality.I speculate that there is some sort of HDMI compatiblity issue with the AGPtek output and my Seiki TV. Apparently it's not uncommon for the inexpensive proprietary HDMI over Cat6 extenders to have either HDCP or HDMI problems with certain hardware. That was confirmed a few days later when I received my AV Access 4KEX70-L HDBaseT HDMI over Cat6 extender. I simply swapped out the AGPtek extender with the AV Access extender and found both TVs worked fine.Of course the AV Access extender was almost four times the price of the AGPtek. It's obviously a higher quality unit using the HDBase T standard, but given the price difference I would have been more than happy with the AGPtek had I been able to get it to work with both TVs.The AGPtek PC000181-AGP1 HDMI over Cat6 extender is another case of you get what you pay for. If it happens to work with your cabling and hardware the price is fantastic and the performance is quite good. In my case it just didn't work as I wanted but I can't fault it because it's so affordable; clearly given the right hardware it works well. But there apparently is a compatibility issue with the unit and some TVs, based on my experience and others who have written reviews here.Regardless I'd suggest you've got nothing to lose trying this unit. If it had worked for me on both TVs I could have saved quite a bit of money. 3A Perfect Product Wow, this switch is perfect. It's small and light. You don't need external power. It gets what little power it needs from the HDMI connection.I stuck it on the back of my TV on one side with some Velcro. I just reach around and press the button. There's no degradation in video quality since HDMI is digital.Be aware there's about a five second delay when switching between inputs. 5Very happy, just a few minor complaints We installed 3 of these for new TV's we hung up in our church. The picture is beautiful, the sound is good (although, we don't use the tv audio because there are speakers in the ceeling) but the IR didnt work. I took 1 star for the IR but for the price, the kit seems well built, its TINY, light and very easy to attach to the TV and hideOdd side note, all of our cables were brand new cable matters cat 6 100 foot cables (top of the line cables) and if we tried 75 foot cables, the picture and sound broke up. 100 foot cables was clear and perfect, kind of odd if your not expecting it 4Adequate This works...OK. Manual switching is fine, but auto switching has been quirky and inconsistent. Sometimes it works, sometimes you have to reach behind the TV and push the button. For the price, it's OK. I probably would have had to spend 2X more to get anything better. 3Nice 2 port switch! This works very very well..It's simple - 2 ports in, 1 port out.. Adding effectively, one additional port to your HDTV.If all you need is just one more port, this will solve that issue. A lot of these switches are unreliable or sloppy, this one isn't. It's simple and it works. It's also powered by HDMI itself! 5Love It! Well worth the price! Love this set up! I use an 80 foot piece of cat 6 in the wall to show my security DVR camera feeds on the upstairs 50' flat screen. It also transmits IR signals so I can send commands from my camera remote downstairs where the DVR is hidden and change views, access menus, etc. Price is a little steep, but would DEFINITELY buy again, if I have a need. I am a data systems contractor and install security cameras and systems in home and businesses and with my most recent contract I used this set to allow homeowner to view camera feed in bedroom on there television from the HDMI output off their DVR. All you need is two HDMI cables, one cat5e/ 6 cable and you're set. Came with instructions but they're dead simple! 5Extended signal from security cameras are very clear on den TV Works great! I recently added my security camera DVR feed to another input on my large den TV. Now I can switch inputs to the feed and take a quick look outside if I hear a strange noise and to see who is at the front door when door bell rings. But since I have only one HDMI output on the DVR, I first used a HDMI splitter and sent one signal to local screen and the other via this box to the den TV. The picture is very clear on the den TV and I also have sound from the microphone attached to the cameras. Saved alot of money doing it myself and didn't take much time since I had a spare CAT6 cable already installed in the wall from when I wired my house up a few years ago. I'm impressed and would recommend it to anyone that wanted to set it up the same. 5Transmitted signal well... But the particular item ... Transmitted signal well . . . But the particular item I received did have an issue. The button that changed between inputs stuck. I could get it to work, but it sometimes took multiple tries. This made it a little frustrating. I assume it was just an issue with the particular one I received. I returned it and opted for one with a remote. It was a very simple return (5 stars for that aspect). The company did e-mail me and wanted to try and sell me a replacement. No complaints with their customer service. 3DON'T BUY, PIECE OF JUNK While this device technically functions, it is a worthless piece of junk. I have tried multiple brand new cat6 cables of 75-100ft and it works most of the time but it has "fits" where it resets the input it my TV over and over. This causes the image to go black and come back within a second. When trying to watch a television this is quite annoying. This will be going in the garbage. Thanks for nothing! Zero stars if possible! 1
