Customer Reviews

CPL with benefitsFirst, this does what any good circular polarized is supposed to do. But there are a couple additional benefits---A-most CPL's block 2 to 2-1/2 stops to light but this one passes 2/3 stop more according to Hoya (maybe even a full stop per the metering on my camera. This is not trivial.B-the HD3 coating is advertized to be very tough and to resist fingerprints and dust. To my surprise I have found this claim to be true. It actually take some effort to leave a fingerprint and dust tends to simply fall off. 5UV Filter to leave on all the timeThis is a hardened UV filter that I intended to leave on 100% of the time for lens protection. Clarity is excellent, resists fingerprints and dust remarkably well. A bit on the expensive side, but offers good protection w/o any noticeable sacrifice to picture quality. HD3 line is recommended. 5I have used polarizers for over 50 years and it works great. I was difficult to separate from the 67-82mm ...Does not block as much light as most polarizers but appears to work as well. Used extensively on trip on Danube and also used it some on a bus to reduce reflections in the window as we traveled. I have used polarizers for over 50 years and it works great. I was difficult to separate from the 67-82mm step-up adapter. I am replacing the adapters I use and will carry a lens wrench in the future. This is a rather common problem in my experience. 5The filter I received attracts dust, not repel it ...The filter I received attracts dust, not repel it. I can't keep it clean as is seems to have a static charge that will not let me blow, or brush off the dust. It just moves around and clings to the glass. 2Staticky - but a great filter nonethelessI've taken several "lab" photos with my Nikon D850 and zoomed in on photographed microtext with and without the Hoya HD3 filter. I cant tell a difference. No optical degradation that I could detect zoomed 800% on a 45Mpixel image. Exactly what you want for lens protection! Per the coatings...I dunno. I have several less expensive filters and they never seem to be a static magnet like these are. So while they may harden the glass and provide excellent optical results, they do tend to attract dust more than any other filter I've tried. Is that a deal breaker? No - I have since purchased several more of them. Highly recommended! 5Quite Simply The Best!!These Hoya HD3 UV filters are the best filters I've used in over 4 decades of photography. Normally I buy the same brand accessories as the camera and lens that I am using but not anymore. These filters seem to repel contaminants and seldom need cleaning. A light whisk with a lens brush or a lens cleaning cloth is all it takes to restore perfect optical performance. I am now converting all of my UV and CP filters to Hoya HD3 filters. 5No lens caps or worries about lens scratches, but do get dustyI now own 10 of these for my 77 mm and 72 mm lenses, couldn't be happier. As others have mentioned, these tend to attract dust particles which are not easy to fully remove. However, I'm gladly willing to make this sacrifice for not having to use lens caps or worry about scratching or breaking my expensive lenses. I did smack one with a hammer (while not attached to a lens lol) and it didn't break or scratch, and that's good enough for me. 5Claims are trueThe earlier HD series from Hoya were remarkable. The HD3 more so. I have not tested impact resistance (not unless someone wants to buy me a sample to try ) but I've have enough experience with a couple of othe HD filters to confirm they resist scratches, fingerprints and dust to a greater degree than an other I've used. If it were just optics Nikon or B+W are just as good. The fingerprint and dust resistance is hard to accept until you have used one of these for a while - stuff just doesn't stick!Modern digital cameras do not need UV filters so completely clear would do just as well. I use these on lenses that are going to be carried about all day without a lens cap. The goal is to prevent contamination of the front lens element. I'm pretty careful so impact protection is a low risk issue -- dust and grime is a bigger concern for me.These filters are not cheap so you want to make a mental evaluation that tractors in the cost of the lens being protected against the cost of the protective filter and the risk of damage. 5EXPENSIVE - BUT WORTH IT!Digital cameras don't NEED UV filters for photographic purposes. But the pro-quality lenses I use are often at-risk of damage. Finally we have a solution that doesn't present ANY optical compromises. This filter is like an armor coating and you can forget about takings lens caps on and off (or keeping track of where they are).Excellent product! 5Used Sold as NewI received a used item, even though I bought a new product. It was scratched up and the seal had been opened. 1
