Customer Reviews

Compatible replacement stylus is 274-DS73 (LP/78), 274-DS77 (Dual LP), 274-D7 (Single LP tip) Makes a great replacement for the following cartridges, as they all use the same exact mounting clip dimensions:AUE: CP-38S (Crosley Stack-O-Matic and some entry-level turntables)Chuo-Denshi: CZ-680 (found in many 1980s entry-level vintage turntables), CZ-699 (found in some mid-1980s entry-level vintage turntables), CZ-800 (found in many 1980s, 1990s, and even some 2000s-present entry-level turntables)Pfanstiehl: P-188 (found in many entry-level record players from Crosley, Victrola, etc), P-132, P-185, P-187, P-226, P-228Varco: TN4A, TN4B, TN8T (all used in many 1960s-1970s era entry-level turntables)Chuo-Denshi CZ-800/Pfanstiehl P-188 (Used in a wide variety of Crosley/Victrola record players, and some 80s/90s record players)Be warned, the supplied stylus is a DUAL LP tip, despite one side being marked as 78 (proper 78rpm tip is 3 mil, LP is 0.7 mil). If it wasn't for that, I would rate it 5 stars! Here is a list of compatible styli, and cross-reference numbers, to make searching for replacement styli easier, as this cartridge is based on the BSR SC 12H (see picture for comparison):Flip-stylus (unless otherwise indicated, these are LP/78 styli):Pfanstiehl: 274-DS73 (LP/78), 274-DS77 (Dual LP)Arista: 30-012Astatic: N164-SD (LP/78), N164 (Dual LP)BSR: ST-16, ST-17, ST-18Electrohome: H18-201Electro-Voice: 2428DSFidelitone: AC-536DSRecoton: 749SDTranscriber: PS-166Single-Tip (LP only):Pfanstiehl: 274-D7, 264-S7 (Sapphire)Astatic: N161-7DBSR: ST-19, ST-20, ST-21DSC: 104 (Sapphire)Electro-Voice: 2429DEmpire: 5216DMaplin: DSC 104Onkyo: DN-31 (perfect for playing Seeburg BMS 1000 records, as this is a 0.5 mil stylus)Tonar: 556 DSTranscriber: #200Hope this helps!4but it sounds good for the small room I have it in and ...I bought these Banpa at the same time I bought the Exuby diamond 3 pack, as I wasn't sure if those would fit and they had a diamond needle as these were sapphire. Any how short story, both the Banpa and the Exuby fit perfectly no trimming, no alterations on my Art+Sound 6 in 1 nostalgia machine, these should also work in the GOSO as it's an exact copy of the A + S.Just as I gave the Exuby a 5 star rating I'll give these 5 stars also.I played 15 records today between the two styles, both had clear sound and no skipping, the A + S isn't going to out do my PL120 Technica, but it sounds good for the small room I have it in and I played instrumentals, pop, and some jazz and was happy with BOTH stylus.5Fantastic Upgrade for the Numark PT01 TOURING and othersTL;DR : Great Upgrade for all those turntables using the infamous red head ceramic cartridge found on Crosley cruisers and the like.I needed a rechargeable portable turntable for when I go crate digging at thrift stores and the Numark PT01 Touring was the only option so I bought it. I wasn t expecting great sound from the Numark Crosley clone but I didn t think it be this bad! The stock cartridge sounded honky and tinny and terrible thru headphones and even for just sampling records I found the sound unacceptable.Enter the Banpa BP2ATC, I was made aware of this cartridge thru VWESTLIFE on YouTube as an upgrade to the cartridge normally found on these crosley clone record players. I went ahead and bought a Banpa BP2ATC cartridge because at around $12 it was cheap enough to give it a try and I m glad I did! Not only can I play 78rpm records properly now, but the sound quality on the Numark PT01 Touring improved greatly! The sound now is flatter and more even with some low end now whereas the original stock cartridge had no low end to speak of. It could sound even better if the impedance mismatch was addressed in these crosley cruiser clones but I digress...Installation is pretty simple only requiring a flat blade screwdriver, needle nose pliers, and some steady hands. There are videos on youtube going into more detail on how to install this cartridge but the gist of it is stick the screwdriver in the front clip and pry gently till it pops out, then carefully with the pliers or your hands disconnect the connectors off the back of the old cartridge, connect the connectors to the new Banpa cartridge, hook the back of the cartridge into the headshell and snap the front in and you now have installed the Banpa cartridge. As others have noticed the needle that comes with the Banpa BP2AC is a dual LP not a 78/LP needle so if you are serious about playing 78s then get the Pfanstiehl 274-DS73.All in all a great upgrade for all those entry level turntables, so great in fact I bought another for my parents Electrohome EANOS radio.5The Best Cart I've Seen For Twelve Bucks! (US)"It is what it is".If you frequent dollar bins and thrift stores looking to discover new music cheaply, then even if you have a $500+ audiophile table with a magnetic cart, you need a cheap player with a ceramic cart to play your rough records. If your record collecting includes 78's (those heavy old shellac 10 inchers), then you need a flip needle with one side for the thicker stylus to play 78s (3 mils) and the other side (LP) for your normal vinyl and styrene records (.7 mils). Another thing you have to consider is, how much does it cost to replace the stylus for this cart, versus a vintage Astatic, or other cart or needle from your old school player or luggable suitcase with tubes? If you only have a two speed table, or never plan on playing 78s, then you can probably just get a better needle for your standard cart (no flip needle), with a metal cantilever and rubber bushing instead of that cheap all plastic thing that comes with most of of the players. If the original cart still sucks, Banpa makes a single needle cartridge too, to snap right in where your Chuo Denshi (or copy) cart sits. (Of course, if you can play 78s, I highly recommend this flip needle cart, and you should at least get hold of some 78s to experience!)Ceramic carts with their basic conical styli pull less detail out of your records, but if you're playing worn and poorly cared for records, that's detail you don't want to hear! Make sure you have a table with bigger speakers and a tone control if you're going to screen rougher records. A Crosley Cruiser or lookalike "brief case" player with tiny 2 inch "tweeters" for speakers will not make ANY records sound good, and this cart will not help much unless you use headphones or an external amp. Also, these snap-in carts fit other vintage players (BSR for example), and you can find adapters to mount this cart in other players that use 1/2 inch mounting spacing. (Older ceramic style players that is. I'm not saying you should stick this on your high end Thorens or Denon table!) You should also know that ceramic carts like this need to track heavier than the 1.5 or less grams you've heard about for magnetic carts. Six grams or even more are typical for these, not that you can adjust the tracking force on most players this cart is good for. If you try to counterbalance your ceramic cart to something like 1.5 grams, you will be disappointed! This players that use this cart are not for your brand new collectible 180 gram vinyl, but, if you're lucky enough to find a good vintage vinyl 45 that's not too badly thrashed, you'll be amazed at how good it can sound! The machines that take this cart won't immediately shred your records, but again, if you're spending $30 and up for new vinyl, you need a better system for that. This is great for breathing new life into your old plastic stereo players and changers from the '60s and '70s, and is an easy and worthy upgrade for your newer cheapie 3 speed players from China.5Excellent replacement for Crosley "cheapie" record player; sounds WAY better now!Works great for my Crosley "cheapie" record player (which my wife found at Goodwill, but looks just like the ones they have at Urban Outfitters). The sound quality DRAMATICALLY improved when I replaced the original needle. It literally takes about 30 seconds for the entire job; just pop out the old, and pop in the new. Includes two needles. I'm sure that a true audiophile would want something better, but I am MORE than satisfied at how my records now sound (running through a studio monitor and subwoofer setup).Highly recommended!5Terrifying to install on a Crosley, but worth the effortIt flips between 33/45 and 78 on a player that plays all three speeds... I'm not exactly making archival grade recordings of old 78s here, I just wanted to hear some old, forgotten century-old music and the standard needle can't do that because they bounce around like a hotdog in a hallway; this needle doesn't do that, it works GREAT. To hear an original Ella Fitzgerald 10" was just amazing. I wasn't expecting studio quality and am very happy I made this purchase, P.I.T.A. that it was to plug the wires in.5Cheap "upgrade" does improve sound on cheap turntables! As long as you don't expect this product to make your $50 turntable sound like a $500+ one, you should be satisfied! Following a recommendation in one of YouTuber VWestlife's videos, I used this to replace the original cartridge and stylus on my Innovative Technologies briefcase-style turntable. (I use this one at work and only play "dollar bin" used vinyl on it.) Vinyl played with the original ceramic stylus always sounded distorted and just unpleasant. The upgrade produces much clearer sound, especially at higher volume. I am skeptical if this product would improve the sound of a turntable that costs $100 or more, but for cheap vinyl on a cheap player, this product is an enjoyable upgrade.4This cart is HOT! (and not in a good way)Very loud output that just adds to the distortion you'd expect from a low-end cart (read: you'll likely need some attenuation at the input / mixer to avoid severe distortion).. The tips and stylus cantilever seem well-enough put together, but the whole assembly just seems to somehow amplify the noise this cart makes. Microphoning on this model is horrendous. I was able to get the cart to calm down a bit by torturing it with about 30 minutes of scraping it over some trashy scratchy lacquer 78s but it's still not the kind of cutter you'd want to drag over any nice vinyl you intend to keep for a long time.2Get this upgradeI got a few of these banpa cartridges for my Crosley discovery and Numark touring portable and my suitecase Victeola record playersWhen i first got my portable suitcase record players, ,the needle would skip across the record. Every single record i tryed to play was impossible. But after i installed this upgrade cartridge with needle included, the records play beautifully without skipping. And the sound is so nice. Get this if you have any of the red tip record players. Recommended 5A great upgrade for Crosley-type record playersA great upgrade for "Crosley-type" record players. Just be warned that the LP stylus is actually made of ruby, not diamond, and the 78 stylus that is supplied with it is not actually a 3 mil 78 RPM stylus -- it is a sapphire LP stylus. So if you intend to play 78s, you should replace it with a stylus that actually does have a 3 mil side, such as the Pfanstiehl 274-DS73 or Electro-Voice 2428DS. Also it works best at a tracking force of around 4 grams, so if your player is tracking heavier than that, and doesn't have an adjustment, you may need to add a makeshift counterweight to your tonearm.4
